At the same time, international law seems weakened after years of anti-multilateralism and pushbacks against a principled, value-driven international order. Against this backdrop, this book is the first to give a comprehensive and systematic analysis of values in international climate change law and the interplay between value-laden norms and legal form. It shows how an increasing focus on values in the climate change regime has facilitated a decline of legal form in comparison to the 1990s. Teasing out the tensions and trade-offs between a value focus and legal form, the book advances broader insights on the role of community values in public international law.
