%X This study examines what we know about traveling women primarily in the Middle Ages. As we know already, many female aristocrats were forced to travel extensively for the purpose of marriage; other women went on long or short pilgrimages; women were certainly involved in wars as support staff and as the warriors’ wives. But we do not have many actual travelogues by women, except by the late medieval mystic Margery Kemp. Her
