It was the attempt by antiquarians including John Leland (d. 1552) and William Camden (d. 1623) to give King Arthur a local habitation (a quest active even now). Historical Celtic Philology being unknown to Leland and Camden, Dr. Bateman thus describes rightly what they and others got wrong. She is
