N2  - Many forms of para-liturgical music and dance are currently performed in Taiwan, actively promoted through performances and recordings by various religious organizations and cultural enthusiasts. This paper explores the concept and functions of Buddhist dance, introduces the background, characteristics, and social roles of key producers of para-liturgical Buddhist music-dance in Taiwan, and categorizes the types of dances performed. It analyzes similarities and differences between religious and non-religious artistic groups, examining the motivations, methods, and specific types of para-liturgical Buddhist dance promoted. Additionally, it addresses connections between liturgical body movements and para-liturgical dances, discussing whether these contemporary practices reflect a revival of earlier traditions or represent the emergence of a new cultural phenomenon.
