N2  - In 2020, the city of Montpellier celebrated the 800th anniversary of the local foundation of the first formal school of medical education in Europe. Tied to this celebration was an effort to celebrate members of the school’s illustrious faculty, notably Gui de Chauliac (circa 1300‒1368), whose Chirurgia magna or Grande Chirurgie (1363) is a foundational document for the history of medicine. The work was widely diffused, translated into multiple languages, and reprinted numerous times.
