Honorius II is not widely known, but he had the distinction of granting papal recognition to the Knights Templar, clashing with Roger II over his consolidation of power in Apulia and Sicily, and in general dealing with the newly established norms of Church and state following the resolution of the Investiture Contest and the ecclesiastical reality created by Gregorian reforms.
