We know no details of Mermet’s education; he was certainly literate in Occitan, the language of his record books, and may have received rudiments of French and Latin education as well (37). His Occitan is good and shows both his family’s point of origin near Die (Drôme), in the north-Occitan or Vivaro-Alpine dialect region and his long years in Valréas, in the Provençal dialect region (37‒38). %K mermet, claret, livre, treschenu, valréas, jean-claude, rixte, diois, comtat, venaissin, preface, bouvier, montélimar, institut, occitans, droma
