%X This monograph aspires to be no more than a preliminary analytical survey of Polish-Belgian relations in the years 1945-1980 in their political, cultural-educational, economic and commercial aspects. The chief aim was to identify the dynamics of these relations, establishing when and why they were most productive, and when they deteriorated and dropped to freezing point.   The authors' findings were based primarily on extensive archival research, which included documents stored in the New Records Archive (AAN), and the Foreign Ministry Archive (AMSZ) in Warsaw. Archival research in Belgium brought far poorer results, though relatively broad access to the “Polish series” in the Belgian Foreign Affairs Archives (Archives du Ministère des Affaires étrangères Belges) was gained.
