DO - 10.3726/med.2026.01.82 UR - https://www.peterlang.com/document/1748992 N2 - The thousandth anniversary of the accession of King Conrad II (1024–1039), the first ruler of the Salian dynasty (1024–1125), was the occasion for a conference at Aachen in 1023 that led to the publication of the present volume. As the editors of the volume explain in the introduction, the goal of the conference and volume was to address a substantial lacuna in the scholarship regarding the reign of Conrad II, who has not benefited from the same level of attention as either his Salian successors and Ottonian predecessors, and also to consider Conrad’s reign in a broader European perspective. The latter approach has gained increasing importance in scholarship about the German kingdom over the last two decades. The organizers of the Aachen conference brought together 21 scholars, all but one who wrote in German. Unfortunately, the editors chose not to include biographical information about the participating scholars. ER -
