Cultural Media Studies

In the past few years, our political, cultural, and media landscapes have cultivated a sharp, notable rise of media activism, more representations of diverse groups and characters, and the need for intersectional approaches to media studies. The #MeToo campaign, the 2017 and 2018 Women’s Marches, Black Lives Matter marches, cross-border anti-feminicide activist marches, immigration marches, and increased representation of diverse sexual identities, racial/ethnic groups, and gender identities are evidence of the need for continued research on cultural media studies topics. The Peter Lang Cultural Media Studies Book Series is accepting book proposals for both proposed book and fully developed manuscripts on a rolling basis for media studies books that explore media production, media consumption, media effects, and media representations of feminism(s), race/ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and related topics.

Dabei meint Maritime Logistik – Maritime Logistics nicht nur die klassischen Bereiche wie Schifffahrt, Häfen, Schiffbau oder Verkehrspolitik, sondern schließt auch die Betrachtung der vielen weiteren Akteure in den globalen Transportketten ein, die direkt oder indirekt an den Logistikprozessen der maritimen Wirtschaft beteiligt sind. Aufgegriffen werden logistische Fragestellungen zu Themen wie z.B. Hinterlandverkehr und intermodale Verkehre, Mesologistik und regionale Netzwerke wie GVZ und Logistikzentren, nachhaltige Geschäftsmodelle und Ressourceneffizienz oder Supply Chain Controlling. Im Mittelpunkt der Reihe Maritime Logistik – Maritime Logistics stehen aber auch informationslogistische Themen wie die Planung und Überwachung intermodaler Transportketten durch ein aktives Supply Chain Event Management, die Sicherheit und Transparenz im internationalen Containerverkehr oder die Planungsunterstützung und Optimierung logistischer Prozesse in Häfen und Terminals mit Hilfe quantitativer Methoden. Méditerranée: Littératures - Cultures / Mittelmeer: Literaturen - Kulturen

Das Mittelmeer ist in den letzten Jahren nicht nur ins Zentrum politischer Interessen gerückt, sondern auch in den Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaften neu entdeckt worden. Seit mehr als 2000 Jahren treten in diesem in exemplarischer Weise transkulturellen Raum Kulturen miteinander in Kontakt, sei es in Form friedlicher Begegnungen, sei es in Form blutiger Konflikte. Das Mittelmeer hat nicht nur die Mentalitäten der Menschen geprägt, die an seinen Ufern leben, sondern Mythologien und Bilderwelten geschaffen, die tief in die literarischen Texte und Filme eingeschrieben sind. Aufbruch und Neuanfang, Reise, die Begegnung mit dem Anderen, die Beziehungen von Mensch, Natur und Geographie sind nur einige der Themen und Motive, die vom Mittelmeer ihren Ausgangspunkt nehmen, um in die Weltliteratur auszustrahlen. Die Reihe nimmt Arbeiten auf, die diesen Themen, Bildern und Mythologien in Literatur und Film nachgehen, die nach der diskursiven Errichtung und Begründung, aber auch nach der Überschreitung und Überwindung kultureller Grenzen im Mittelmeerraum fragen, die die Beziehungen und Bezugnahmen zwischen den einzelnen Kulturen und ihren Artefakten untersuchen. Sie situiert sich im Rahmen einer transnationalen, postkolonial und transkulturell begründeten Literatur- und Kulturwissenschaft, in der auch die wissenschaftliche Analyse von Film und anderen medialen Formen ihren Platz hat. The series Linguistica Philologica aims to foster dialogue across boundaries among the different fields and paradigms of linguistics in a broad philological and historical context. The edited volumes, monographs, and congress proceedings cover the linguistics of the entire spectrum of languages, focusing on describing and explaining languages as systems, the oral and written use of language, and language variation, its precipitating factors and outcomes. The double-blind peer-reviewed volumes are published in English, French, Spanish, German, and Russian. Die Publikationsreihe Linguistica Philologica will den Dialog über die Grenzen der unterschiedlichen Bereiche und Paradigmen der Sprachwissenschaft hinweg in einem breiten philologischen und historischen Kontext fördern. Die Reihe Forum Translationswissenschaft veröffentlicht Studien aus dem Gebiet der Linguistik und Übersetzungswissenschaft. Thematische Schwerpunkte der Reihe sind ausgewählte Probleme der Übersetzungswissenschaft, wie die Literaturübersetzung oder die Dolmetscherausbildung. Ferner erscheinen in der Reihe die Tagungsbände der Innsbrucker Ringvorlesungen zur Translationswissenschaft. Der Herausgeber Lew Zybatow ist Professor für Translationswissenschaft, insbesondere für Film- und Literaturübersetzung.

Regionalsprache und regionale Kultur

Die Reihe hat zum Ziel, Arbeiten zur Sprache und Kommunikation in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern unter einem publizistischen Dach zu vereinen und die bislang disparate Forschung auf diesem Gebiet erstmals und langfristig zusammenzuführen. Die linguistische Erforschung der Sprache(n) in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern hat eine bis in das 19. Jahrhundert (und darüber hinaus) zurückreichende Tradition, wobei der Fokus lange auf den historischen mittelniederdeutschen Sprachformen sowie den basisdialektalen Varietäten, d.h. den traditionellen mecklenburgischen und pommerschen Dialekten lag. Im Kontext der neueren Dialektologie und Regionalsprachenforschung lässt sich für die letzten Jahre ein vermehrtes wissenschaftliches Interesse auch an der rezenten Regionalsprache beobachten, deren Strukturierung, Differenzierung, Entwicklung und Verwendung analysiert wird. Rechtshistorische Reihe

Die Rechtshistorische Reihe hat seit ihrem ersten Erscheinen 1978 zahlreiche Sammelbände, Tagungsbände und Monographien zur Geschichte der Rechtswissenschaft herausgegeben. Die Studien der Reihe decken dabei in Detail- und Überblicksanalysen das gesamte Spektrum der Rechtsgeschichte ab, vom Frühmittelalter bis ins 20. Jahrhundert und beispielsweise vom hansischen Seerecht bis zum Verwaltungsrecht der DDR. Die Qualität der in dieser Reihe erscheinenden Arbeiten wird vor der Publikation durch einen Herausgeber der Reihe geprüft.

ICA International Communication Association Annual Conference Theme Book Series

As of 2013, ICA and Peter Lang Publishing started co-publishing papers from ICA’s annual conference theme sessions in the form of edited collections. Written in an engaging style, these volumes are meant to appeal to a wider audience and to reach scholars in other disciplines outside of Communication Studies. As such, the collections are not conference proceedings per se but a unique set of selected essays that capture the insights and agendas of the discipline’s top scholars.

Medieval Interventions

Medieval Interventions publishes innovative studies on medieval culture broadly conceived. By «innovative», we envisage works espousing, for example, new research protocols especially those involving digitized resources, revisionist approaches to codicology and paleography, reflections on medieval ideologies, fresh pedagogical practices, digital humanities, advances in gender studies, as well as fresh thinking on animal, environmental, geospatial, and nature studies. In short, the series will seek to set rather than follow agendas in the study of medieval culture. Since medieval intellectual and artistic practices were naturally interdisciplinary, the series welcomes studies from across the humanities and social sciences. Recognizing also the vigor that marks the field worldwide, the series endeavors to publish work in translation from non-Anglophone medievalists.

Digital Learning and the Future

This interdisciplinary book series examines the use of digital technology in education. It is part of an unfolding educational agenda around technology-enhanced learning, where technology is both blended as a tool within existing pedagogies and drives new pedagogies. The series looks to the future, to emerging technologies and methodologies. Areas of interest include educational futures and future pedagogies, pedagogy and globalization (including MOOC), mobile learning, edtech, technology in assessment, the use of AI in education, and technology and face-to-face blended learning. The series encourages proposals for short-format books (between 25,000 and 50,000 words) with the aim of responding quickly to this rapidly changing field. Short monographs, co-authored or edited collections, case studies, practical guides and more are also all welcome.

The book series Contributions to Educational and Rehabilitation Psychology has been published since 2010 with the aim of documenting new scientific approaches and topical trends from the highly differentiated fields of educational and rehabilitative psychology. The previous main topics were related to basic phenomena of memory and learning, new learning methods which can be used in school lessons and rehabilitative training, learning and adjustment disorders as well as coping with traumatic experiences e.g., after severe natural disasters, such as the 2004 tsunami in South-East Asia. The monographs and anthologies are edited by certified psychologist, Prof. Dr. Evelin Witruk in German and English. Die Reihe Beiträge zur Pädagogischen und Rehabilitationspsychologie erscheint seit 2010 mit dem Ziel, neue wissenschaftliche Zugänge und aktuelle Trends aus den weit verzweigten Gebieten der Pädagogischen Psychologie und der Rehabilitationspsychologie zu dokumentieren. Schwerpunkte liegen auf Basisphänomenen von Gedächtnis und Lernen, neuen Lernmethoden, die in Unterricht und Rehabilitation Anwendung finden können, Lern- und Anpassungsstörungen sowie der Verarbeitung traumatischer Erlebnisse, z. B. nach schweren Naturkatastrophen wie dem Tsunami 2004 in Südostasien. Educational Equity in Community Colleges

This series centers theory and practice in enacting educational equity, and, ultimately, educational justice at the administrative, institutional/programmatic, governance, and pedagogical levels of community colleges and other institutions of higher learning (Woods & Harris, 2016; Nevarez & Wood, 2010). There is a corpus of literature on the pernicious effects of oppressive pedagogy at the K-12 level, especially for traditionally marginalized, minoritized students (Nasir, 2011; Delpit, 2012; Leonardo, 2010). However, this is not the case at the community college level even though these same traditionally marginalized, minoritized students overwhelming start their college careers in two-year community colleges. Frankly, though there are many valuable contributions to community college education, overall there is a dearth of literature on critical, justice-centered pedagogy, theory and practice (i.e., praxis) within community college administration, governance, programming, and pedagogy. Community college practitioners are interested in enacting educational equity. However, there is little community college-specific literature for them to use to reimagine and, ultimately, reconstruct their administrative, programmatic, and pedagogical practices so that these institutionalized practices become commensurate with educational equity and justice (Tuck & Yang, 2018). Therefore, the goal of this series is to blend the work of university researchers and community college practitioners to illuminate best practices in achieving educational equity and justice via a critical-reality pedagogical framework (Giroux, 2004; Emdin, 2017; Sims, 2018). This series aims to highlight work that illuminates both the successes and struggles in developing institutionalized practices that positively impact poor ethno-racially minoritized students of color. Therefore, we will be looking at pedagogies, policies, and practices that are intentionally developed, curated and sustained by committed educators, administrators, and staff at their respective college campuses that work to ensure just learning conditions for all students.

Human Right Studies

Among the broad structural transformation processes at the global level, the international legal recognition of human rights occupies an exceptionally prominent position. The dimensions of this process include standard setting, the functioning of sophisticated machineries for the promotion and protection of human rights, the development of a specific international case-law as well as new priorities of the political agenda. The human rights paradigm is at the heart of a new set of interrelated principles, which are equally valid at both the domestic and the international levels – such as the rule of law, democratic principles and the responsibility to protect – and of great strategic visions, as human development and human security. New functions, such as human rights monitoring, election observation, fact-finding and inquiry have already been admitted to international practice. This series intends to foster the publication of volumes that investigate the multiple facets of a strongly evolving reality, and stimulate the production of new and innovative ideas. It offers to highlight how the human rights paradigm is at times used and at times disregarded or exploited in cases and situations that regard among others those belonging to vulnerable groups (immigrants, asylum seekers, persons with disabilities), NGOs and human rights defenders’ advocacy, intercultural dialogue, governance of world economy, bio-technologies and peace operations. Those studies which adopt inter- and trans-disciplinary approaches, in accordance with the fundamental principle of interdependence and indivisibility of civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights, will be favored. America Romana

Im Wintersemester 2009/2010 wurde an der Universität Trier eine neue Forschungseinrichtung mit dem Namen America Romana Centrum (ARC) gegründet, die der auf Amerika zentrierten romanistischen Forschung und Lehre einen institutionellen Rahmen gibt. Ziel des ARC ist es, die Tradition der sprachenübergreifenden Romanistik, die für Europa so beeindruckende Resultate geliefert hat, auf Amerika anzuwenden: Das Französische in Kanada, der Karibik und in Südamerika (Guyana), das Spanische als Staatssprache von 19 Ländern zwischen dem Rio Grande und Feuerland sowie das Portugiesische in Brasilien sollen ebenso wie franko- und ibero-kreolische Varianten bzw. die nach Amerika verpflanzten Ausprägungen des Italienischen (und neuerdings des Rumänischen) im Zentrum der Aufmerksamkeit stehen. Die interdisziplinären Auseinandersetzungen mit dem Raum America Romana fokussieren gegenseitige Beeinflussungen, aber auch Abgrenzungen sowie Berührungen mit anderen Sprachen, Literaturen und Kulturen.

The Modernist Revolution in World Literature

In the stormy time period approximately between the Paris Commune in 1871 and the revolutionary events in May 1968, or between the conclusion of the American Civil War and the withdrawal of American troops from Vietnam, the rise and fall of international modernism was crucial to all historical, political, and intellectual de-velopments around the world. By the time the United States had emerged from its military involvement in Indo-China, the modernist movement had given way to postmodernism. This series investigates the development of international modern-ism in the half century leading up to World War I and its disintegration in the fol-lowing fifty years. High modernism claimed that it represented a break with corrupt values of previous cultural traditions, but we now think that this very drive to “make it new” is itself derivative. What are the roots and characteristics of modernism? How did the philosophical and pedagogical system supporting modernism develop? Is mod-ernism, perhaps, not a liberating movement but a device to shield high culture from rising democratic vulgarization? What is the role of modernism in postcolonial struggles? Where does feminism fall in the modernist agenda? How do changing systems of patronage and the economy of art influence modernism as an enor-mously expanded reading public becomes augmented by cinema, radio, and televi-sion? The aim of the series Frontiers in Journalism Studies is straightforward: journalism as a field, and journalism studies as a way to make sense of it, both face the challenge of keeping pace with a range of developments. New Literacies and Digital Epistemologies

New literacies emerge and evolve apace as people from all walks of life engage with new technologies, shifting values and institutional change, and increasingly assume 'postmodern' orientations toward their everyday worlds. Despite many efforts to take account of such changes, educational institutions largely remain out of touch with the range of new ways of making and sharing meanings that increasingly mediate and shape the lives of the young people they teach and the futures they face. This series aims to explore some key dimensions of the changes occurring within social practices of literacy and the educational challenges they present, with a view to informing educational practice in helpful ways. It asks what are new literacies,how do they impact on life in schools, homes, communities, workplaces, sites of leisure, and other key settings of human cultural engagement, and what significance do new literacies have for how people learn and how they understand and construct knowledge? It aims to challenge established and 'official' ways of framing literacy, and to ask what it means for literacies to be powerful, effective, and enabling under current and foreseeable conditions. Collectively, the works in this series will help to reorient literacy debates and literacy education agendas.

Liberatory Stories and Rebel Voices for Abolition

Liberatory Stories and Rebel Voices for Abolition is a grass-roots, community-focused, radical, transformativ, critical decolonizing, anti-authoritarian book series on the political delineations of transforming education for liberation in communities occupying Indigenous territories and stolen land on Turtle Island (North America) and beyond. This book series will provide space and place for marginalized communities, students, workers, public intellectuals, activist-scholars, teachers, professors, justice impacted people, youth, and oppressed voices to critically resist and amplify their counter-stories which demand that, in the rollout of the neoliberal agendas, public education must be affordable, inclusive, equitable, inclusive, just, transformative, and open to all. This book series foregrounds writer’s agency with authentic story-telling, autoethnography, collective biography, and life writing narratives and is a place for disseminating participatory action and social justice activist research. It seeks critical teaching and critical writing that resists Eurocentric pedagogies and methodologies such as denotative reports, standardized metrics, rubrics, corporate, neoliberal, capitalist, standardized, colonial, factory education that colonizes the mind. Instead, the series privileges radical liberatory praxis and makes space for outstanding embodied action research tied to teaching, transformative participatory projects created with not ‘on’ marginalized communities that centers the margin. This book series defends, supports, and participates in revolutionary, transformative, social justice radical critical abolition movements to end authoritarianism, domination, oppression, state-violence, and repression. This book series has a hope for democracy from which knowledge from and for the margins emerge as powerful counter-currents and disruptive discourses that liberate. This book series holds space and place for these voices who brave the world with knowledge in one hand and resistance in the other to liberate all.

The book series “Studies in Pedagogy, Andragogy, and Gerontagogy” is dedicated to theoretical and empirical research in adult education and continuing training. It aims at critically accompanying the process of the discipline’s internationalization and reflects on its inbound and outbound effects. It provides a transnational forum which perpetuates the agendas of national and international conferences. It offers also a space for such foundation works which serve the constitution and international comparison of adult education and continuing training. Outstanding scientists as well as young and ambitious scholars are addressed. Books are published in English or German language. Book proposals are welcome and should be submitted to the editors. After a successful review by the editors and the publisher (or peer review) they will suggested for publication in the series. Critical Studies of Latinxs in the Americas

The Latinx presence continues to grow and intersect with every aspect of life in the 21st century. This is evident when one considers the appointment of Sonia Sotomayor as Associate Justice to the United States Supreme Court. As well as the prominence of distinct Latinx individuals in various spheres of social, cultural, and political life such as Mario J. Molina, Nobel Prize winner and recipient of the Medal of the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2013; and Jorge Maria Bergoglio (Pope Francis) who has revolutionized the Catholic church since he became the highest ecclesiastical authority of the Catholic world in 2013. Latino Studies, as an academic field of inquiry, began to emerge during the early 1990s surfacing from the more recognized field of Chicano Studies. As such, the major contributions to the field first emerged from Mexican/Chicano scholarship—publications such as Aztlán, the most important journal in the field of Chicano Studies since 1970; Gloria Anzaldúa’’s groundbreaking memoir/essay, Borderlands/La Frontera: The New Mestiza (1987); George J. Sanchez’s historical account, Becoming Mexican American: Ethnicity, Culture, and Identity in Chicano Los Angeles, 1900-1945 (1995); and the two volumes of The Chicano Studies Reader: An Anthology of Aztlan, 1970-2010. These are a few examples of the consolidation and the continuing development of Chicano Studies in the United States. In the past two decades, Latino Studies have grown and expanded significantly. There have been a large number of publications about Latinxs in the Midwest and North East; in addition, due to the fast-growing population of Latinxs in the area, new scholarship has emerged about the Latinxs in the New South. Some examples of the emerging field of Latino Studies are the Latinos on the East Coast (2015) edited by Yolanda Medina and Ángeles Donoso Macaya, Global Cities and Immigrants (2015) by Francisco Velasco Caballero and María de los Angeles Torres; the Handbook of Latinos and Education (2010) edited by Enrique Murillo, et al.; Angela Anselmo’s and Alma Rubal-Lopez’s 2004 On Becoming Nuyoricans; David Carey Jr. and Robert Atkinson (2009) Latino Voices in New England; Yolanda Prieto’s case study entitled, The Cubans of Union City: Immigrants and Exiles in a New Jersey Community (2009); and Lawrence La Fontaine-Stokes’ Queer Ricans Cultures and Sexualities in the Diaspora (2009). Critical Studies of Latinxs in the Americas will become the counterpart of the aforementioned research about the Latinx diaspora that deserve equal scholarly attention and will add to the academic field of inquiry that highlights the lived experience, consequential progress and contributions, as well as the issues and concerns that all Latinxs face in present times. This provocative series will offer a critical space for reflection and questioning of what it means to be Latinx living in the Americas, extending the dialogue to include the North and South hemispheric relations that are prevalent in other fields of global studies such as Post-Colonial Theory, Post-Colonial Feminism, Latin American and Caribbean Studies, Critical Race Theory, and others. This broader scope can contribute to prolific interdisciplinary research and can also promote changes in policies and practices that will enable today’s leaders to deal with the overall issues that affect us all. Topics that explore contemporary inequalities and social exclusions associated with processes of racialization, economic exploitation, health, education, transnationalism, immigration, identity politics, and abilities that are not commonly highlighted in the current literature as well as the multitude of socio-economic, and cultural commonalities and differences among the Latinxs in the Americas will be at the center of the series. As the Latinx population continues to grow and change, and universities enhance their Latino Studies programs to be inclusive of all types of Latinx identities, a series dedicated to the lived experience of Latinxs in the Americas and a consideration of their progress and concerns in the social, cultural, political, economic, and artistic arenas is of incredible value in the quest for pedagogical practices and understandings that apply a critical perspective to the issues facing scholars in this area of study. Scholars, faculties, and students alike will benefit from this series. Expressions of interest for authored or edited books will be considered on a first come basis. Series description: This series draws on the success of the systems-thinking approach to safety management in commercial and military aviation, with a view to improving safety performance in other complex socio-technical systems, such as health-care, nuclear power generation, chemicals production, oil and gas extraction, deep mining and sea and rail transportation. Following the 1977 Tenerife air disaster (that killed 583 people), a traumatised and vilified aviation industry resolved to improve its safety performance. The adoption of a systems-thinking approach to risk analysis and mitigation, expressed in innovations such as the teamworking protocol crew resource management, has benefited the industry. According to the International Air Transportation Association, in 2024 the global all-accident rate was 1.13 per million flights, equating to one accident for every 880,000 flights. You are much safer in a pressurised aluminium tube cruising at eighty per cent the speed of sound six miles above terra firma than you are driving up Britain’s M1 motorway on a sunny day in a modern automobile, fully alert and not under the influence. The series is aimed at practitioners as well as academics and students. To this end, it is written in an accessible style with jargon explained. This reflects its purpose: to leverage change.
