Sammlung/Collection Variations

In der neu gegründeten Reihe Sammlung/Collection Variations werden in erster Linie Beiträge zu Kolloquien, Symposien und Studientagen aus dem Bereich der Literaturwissenschaften veröffentlicht, die in Beziehung zur Universität Zürich stehen. Die Sammlung dient dem Ziel, dem interessierten Publikum einen aktuellen Querschnitt aus einer bestimmten Disziplin oder einem Themengebiet zu ermöglichen. Sie ist somit zugleich als Ergänzung und Erweiterung der jeweils einmal jährlich erscheinenden Literaturzeitschrift Variations gedacht.

Interlocutrices privilégiées tant des acteurs sociaux que des autres sciences sociales, les sciences de l'éducation alimentent le questionnement éducatif des sociétés contemporaines. La Collection Exploration entend contribuer à cette réflexion. La pluralité des disciplines et des approches en sciences de l'éducation définit la vocation de la Collection Exploration, celle de carrefour des multiples dimensions de la recherche et de l'action éducative. Sans a priori quant aux méthodes, la Collection publie des travaux empruntant une démarche scientifique, afin de les rendre accessibles aux chercheurs, aux formateurs, enseignants et éducateurs, et plus généralement à toute personne intéressée par l'analyse des phénomènes éducatifs. Comme l'évoque son nom, Exploration privilégie les travaux investissant des terrains nouveaux, abordant des questions vives de la recherche éducationnelle ou développant des méthodologies et des problématiques prometteuses. Exploration comprend trois séries. Recherches en sciences de l’éducation couvre tous les domaines de l’éducation ; Éducation: Histoire et pensée est dédiée aux travaux sociohistoriques et de philosophie ; Vygotskij : œuvres et études se spécialise dans le développement, l’art et les concepts y relatifs en éducation. Placée sous les auspices de la Société suisse pour la recherche en éducation, Exploration a été fondée en 1977; elle a depuis lors publié une centaine d'ouvrages. Quatre à huit volumes paraissent annuellement, choisis par les directeurs de la collection et évalués par des chercheurs scientifiques reconnus. Générations futures, Paix et Environnement / Future generations, Peace and the Environment

The purpose of this collection is to promote the work carried out by the Normandy Chair for Peace, which investigates the rights of future generations and Peace with the Earth. Resolutely open to the international scene and committed to multidisciplinarity, the Normandy Chair for Peace will publish here the proceedings and scholarship it has coordinated in fields as varied as: the legal protection of the planet, the rights of indigenous peoples, the rights of nature, animals, success stories, and environmental peace-building. This collection strives for coherence among the various transformations currently under way in international, regional and national legal systems with a view toward establishing sustainable protection of the environment, environmental rights and the future. The collection also explores protection of the future human condition along with bioethical issues that are constantly renewing the legitimate fields of law. Drawing on the immemorial wisdom of Humankind, this collection intends to promote all types of work illustrating the imperative of civilization according to which: "We shall have peace on Earth when we live in Peace with the Earth". Cette collection a pour objet de promouvoir les travaux menés par la Chaire Normandie pour la Paix qui œuvre pour le droit des générations futures et la Paix avec la Terre. Résolument ouverte à l’international et inscrite dans la pluridisciplinarité, la Chaire Normandie pour la paix publiera ici les travaux scientifiques qu’elle aura coordonné dans des domaines aussi variés que　: la protection juridique de la planète, des droits des peuples autochtones, des droits de la nature, des animaux, des success stories, de la construction de la paix environnementale. Elle œuvre pour une mise en cohérence de différentes transformations actuellement en cours au sein des systèmes juridiques internationaux, régionaux à nationaux en vue d’instituer une protection durable de l’environnement, des droits environnementaux et de l’avenir. Elle est également ouverte à la protection de la condition humaine future et aux questions de bioéthique qui ne cessent de renouveler les champs légitimes du droit. Prenant appui sur la sagesse immémoriale de l’Humanité, cette collection entend promouvoir tous types de travaux illustrant cet impératif de civilisation selon lequel　: «　Nous aurons la paix sur Terre lorsque nous vivrons en Paix avec la Terre　».

ECHO est une collection dirigée par l'Institut d'archéologie et d'histoire ancienne (IAHA) de l'Université de Lausanne. Elle présente les travaux conduits dans le cadre de l'IAHA dans le domaine de l'histoire ancienne, de l'épigraphie et de la numismatique grecques et romaines, de l'archéologie, de la littérature, philologie et philosophie antiques. Des actes de colloques, des cycles de conférences, des thèses de doctorat, des travaux de jeunes chercheurs ou d'enseignants universitaires y prennent place, soulignant ainsi le caractère dynamique, multidisciplinaire et international des recherches menées à l'IAHA. Le volume 14 conclut la collection.

Moving Texts / Testi mobili

Moving Texts/Testi mobili questions Italian memory and identity from the perspective of literary and media studies, providing a forum for discussions on major research topics, including migration and mobility studies, cultural studies, cultural memory studies, film studies, translation studies and studies on linguistic attitudes and sociolinguistic changes. Moving Texts/Testi mobili is open to research conducted within established and emerging fields of investigation. It specifically promotes multi-perspective, multi-disciplinary and inter-medial approaches. The series uses double-blind peer review and is supported by an international advisory board. Proposals in Italian, French or English are welcome both for the main series (monographs and edited volumes), and for Moving Texts/Testi Mobili – Tandem, the sub-series for conjoined essays by two different authors. Potential contributors are invited to submit a book proposal consisting of an outline, a sample chapter and a CV. Only complete manuscripts following the series guidelines are accepted for peer review. *** Moving Texts/Testi mobili　indaga la memoria e l’identità italiana offrendo uno spazio aperto a ricerche su migrazione e mobilità, a studi culturali e sulla memoria culturale, nonché a saggi nei seguenti ambiti: letteratura, media, traduzioni, attitudini linguistiche e cambiamenti sociolinguistici. International Folkloristics

This series includes theoretical studies of any genre or aspect of folklore. The series welcomes individually authored and collaboratively authored books, monographs, collections of data, bibliographies, and Festschriften. The emphasis will be on analytic and methodological innovations in the consideration of myth, folktale, legend, superstition, proverb, riddle, folksong, festival, game or any other form of folklore as well as any of the interpretative approaches to folklore topics. The series, seeking to present the richness that this expansion of points of view constitutes, will welcome studies making it possible to confront the data and the observations of research centered on the linguistic system with those of studies exploring other areas of research on the operation of language in specific contexts: the area of acquisition, the area of teaching/learning, the area of different types of variation, diachronic, diatopic, diastratic, oral/written, etc. All the volumes published in the series «GRAMM-R» will be subject to double blind peer review. La collection « GRAMM-R. Études de Linguistique française » a pour but de rendre accessibles les travaux de linguistique française, en tenant compte, à la fois, des grandes théories linguistiques, de la multiplication des recherches dans des domaines connexes et de la diversification des points de vue sur le langage. Indigenous Cultures of Latin America

Indigenous Cultures of Latin America: Past and Present is a new bilingual series that welcomes book proposals, in English or Spanish, focused on the fields of anthropology, archaeology, linguistics, ethnohistory, and art history, among others. We encourage original proposals for projects that use a conjunctive approach to understanding beliefs and lifeways of prehispanic, colonial period, and contemporary indigenous peoples inhabiting Latin America, broadly defined (i.e. extending into parts of the U.S. Southeast and Southwest), relying on a combination of methodologies and data sets to interpret the subject matter. We further encourage projects that utilize decolonizing methodologies and seek to promote research and fieldwork undertaken in collaboration with local indigenous communities and/or indigenous consultants. The series will publish academic monographs, edited collections, and readers. All book proposals and manuscripts will be subject to a rigorous single-blind peer review process, conducted by experts in the respective field(s) of study. Berkeley Insights in Linguistics and Semiotics

Through the publication of ground-breaking scholarly research, this series deals with language and the multiple and varied paradigms through which it is studied. Language as viewed by linguists represents micrometa-approaches that intersect with macrometa-approaches of semiotists who understand language as an inlay to all experience. This data-based series bridges study of the sciences with that of the humanities.

Die neue Schriftenreihe will die umwälzenden Fragen der digitalen Gesellschaft aus juristischer Perspektive nachzeichnen, unter besonderer Berücksichtigung des IT-Rechts und der technischen Bezüge der Digitalisierung. Das besondere Augenmerk gilt dabei der interdisziplinären Verzahnung von Technik und Recht. Dabei weitet sich das IT-Recht zunehmend zu einem allgemeinen Daten- und Informationsrecht aus, sodass auch die Bezüge zu Rechtsfragen von Big Data, dem Dateneigentum oder der datenschutzrechtlichen Zuordnung von Informationen thematisiert werden. Willkommen sind insbesondere Abhandlungen, die die Grundsatzfragen des Informationsrechts interdisziplinär und rechtsvergleichend untersuchen. Die Schriftenreihe wurde Mitte 2022 eingestellt.

With the advent of digitization, communication with and between machines increasingly plays a role in interpersonal interactions. What will the future look like: will algorithms become more important than argumentation? Will societal discussions and decisions be replaced by big data analyses? What role will social media play, and how will communication work there? Will we still be telling stories in the future, while algorithms will be writing history? In short, how will information technology, social robots and artificial intelligence alter our existing understandings of communication in the emerging digital age? This book series aims to provide an interdisciplinary forum for both empirical and theoretical discussions of the relationship between language and digital culture. Book proposals are welcome and may be sent to either the editorial board or the publisher. The languages of publication are German and English. Mit der Digitalisierung tritt neben die zwischenmenschliche Interaktion zunehmend die Kommunikation mit und zwischen Maschinen. Doch wie wird die Zukunft aussehen: Werden Algorithmen wichtiger sein als Argumente? Werden soziale Diskussionen und Entscheidungen durch Big Data-Analysen ersetzt? Welche Rolle werden die Social Media spielen, und wie wird dort kommuniziert werden? Werden wir uns zukünftig zwar noch Geschichten erzählen, Algorithmen aber faktisch Geschichte schreiben? Kurzum: Wie werden Kommunikationstechnologien, soziale Roboter und Künstliche Intelligenz unser bisheriges Verständnis von Kommunikation in einer beginnenden Digitalkultur verändern? Die wissenschaftliche Buchreihe möchte diesem Spannungsverhältnis von Sprache und Digitalkultur ein interdisziplinäres Forum der empirischen wie theoretischen Auseinandersetzung bieten. Toronto Studies in Religion

This series of monographs and books is designed as a contribution to the scholarly and academic understanding of religion. Such understanding is taken to involve both a descriptive and an explanatory task. The first task is conceived as one of surface description involving the gathering of information about religions, and depth description that provides, on the basis of the data gathered, a more finely nuanced description of a tradition's self-understanding. The second task concerns the search for explanation and the development of theory to account for religion and for particular historical traditions. The series will, furthermore, cover the phenomenon of religion in all its constituent dimensions and geographic diversity. Both established and younger scholars in the field will be included and will represent a wide range of viewpoints and positions, producing original work of high order at the monograph and major study level. Although predominantly empirically oriented, the series will also encourage theoretical studies and even leave room for creative and empirically controlled philosophical and speculative approaches in the interpretation of religions and religion. Both established and younger scholars in the field will be included and will represent a wide range of viewpoints and positions, producing original work of high order at the monograph and major study level. Although predominantly empirically oriented, the series will also encourage theoretical studies and even leave room for creative and empirically controlled philosophical and speculative approaches in the interpretation of religions and religion. Toronto Studies in Religion will be of particular interest to those who study the subject at universities and colleges but will also be of value to the general educated reader.

This new series explores the multiple intersections of science, fiction and the future, where speculative imaginings begin to enter the present. The series provides short introductions and surveys on single topics where science, technology and the imagination intertwine in the creation of possible futures. How is speculative fiction in dialogue with futures thinking and technological development? What challenges do we face when futuristic science and technology are happening now? Who benefits from these futures and how can they be made ethical, inclusive and sustainable? Language as Social Action

This Series explores new and exciting advances in the ways in which language both reflects and fashions social reality--and thereby constitutes critical means of social action. As well as these being central foci in face-to-face interactions across different cultures, they also assume significance in the ways that language functions in the mass medias, new technologies, organizations, and social institutions. Language As Social Action does not uphold apartheid against any particular methodological and/or ideological position, but, rather, promotes (wherever possible) cross-fertilization of ideas and empirical data across the many, all-too-contrastive, social scientific approaches to language and communication. Contributors to the Series will also accord due attention to the historical, political, and economic forces that contextually bound the ways in which language patterns are analyzed, produced, and received. The Series will also provide an important platform for theory-driven works that have profound, and oftentimes provocative, implications for social policy.

Contemporary Studies in Descriptive Linguistics

This series provides an outlet for academic monographs which offer a recent and original contribution to linguistics and which are within the descriptive tradition. While the monographs demonstrate their debt to contemporary linguistic thought, the series does not impose limitations in terms of methodology or genre, and does not support a particular linguistic school. Rather the series welcomes new and innovative research that contributes to furthering the understanding of the description of language. The topics of the monographs are scholarly and represent the cutting edge for their particular fields, but are also accessible to researchers outside the specific disciplines. Contemporary Studies in Descriptive Linguistics is based at the School of English, University of St Andrews. The Literary and Cultural Stylistics subseries aims to explore the intersection of descriptive linguistics with the disciplines of literature and culture. The techniques of stylistic analysis offer a way of approaching texts both literary and non-literary as well as all forms of cultural communication. The subseries offers a home for this research, where literary criticism meets linguistics and where cultural studies meets communication. It welcomes a wide range of data sets and methodologies, with the intention that every book in the subseries makes a new contribution to the disciplines that support them.

Studies in Language, Culture and Society

Until the publication of volume 16, the series was coedited by prof. Piotr Ruszkiewicz. The series will publish books addressing the nexus between language, culture and society. Contrastive studies are welcome in particular, whether of a synchronic or diachronic orientation. Various perspectives on language/communication are of interest: grammatical, pragmatic, sociolinguistic, discoursal and semiotic. A wide range of theoretical and methodological positions is accepted: cognitive /anthropological / corpus linguistics, as well as pragmatics, interactional sociolinguistics, (specialized) genre analysis, or critical discourse studies. The cutting edge of the series is to publish innovative research elucidating the processes of inter- and intra-language variation and change, and – at the same time – relating them to flows in and across cognate categories of culture, community and society. The series will publish monographs and edited volumes reporting on data-driven research that carries a potential for application in translation studies, language teaching, multilingual (multicultural) education, and interdisciplinary critical discourse studies. The languages of publication will be English and German, yet book proposals in other major languages will also be considered, if centrally contributive to the main aim of the series.

The series Language Competence and Language Awareness in Europe unites interdisciplinary linguistic research with a thematic focus on multilingualism, linguistic choices and linguistic variability, language contact processes in Europe – and beyond its boundaries – as well as situated speech practices and literacy skills in private and public spaces. The series editor Amei Koll-Stobbe welcomes manuscript proposals, especially data orientated analyses of language competence cum performance with a priority on basic research (without any restrictions regarding theoretical and methodological frameworks). Prior to publication, the quality of the works published in this series is reviewed by external referees appointed by the editor. In der Buchreihe Sprachkönnen und Sprachbewusstsein in Europa erscheinen vorwiegend Sammelbände aus Linguistik und Anglistik. Der thematische Fokus liegt auf der Sprachkontaktlinguistik, auf Aspekten von Sprachwahl und Sprachvariabilität in nationalen Sprachgrenzen – oder über diese hinweg – sowie auf situierten Sprachpraktiken (und literacy skills) in privaten und öffentlichen Räumen.
