The series «Work & Society» analyses the development of employment and social policies, as well as the strategies of the different social actors, both at national and European levels. It puts forward a multi-disciplinary approach – political, sociological, economic, legal and historical – in a bid for dialogue and complementarity. The series is not confined to the social field stricto sensu, but also aims to illustrate the indirect social impacts of economic and monetary policies. It endeavours to clarify social developments, from a comparative and a historical perspective, thus portraying the process of convergence and divergence in the diverse national societal contexts. The manner in which European integration impacts on employment and social policies constitutes the backbone of the analyses. La collection « Travail & Société » analyse les évolutions de la sphère du travail et des politiques sociales à travers l’étude des stratégies menées par les acteurs sociaux, tant sur le plan national qu’européen. Elle propose une approche pluridisciplinaire – politique, sociologique, économique, juridique et historique – dans un souci de dialogue et de complémentarité. La collection ne se limite pas à des études du champ social stricto sensu mais vise également à illustrer les impacts sociaux indirects des politiques économiques et monétaires. Elle s’attache à mettre en perspective les évolutions sociales, tant du point de vue historique que de manière comparative, en illustrant la convergence et la divergence dans les différents parcours nationaux. La dimension européenne, et plus particulièrement l’impact de l’intégration européenne, constitue un axe d’analyse privilégié.

The Book Serie «Champs didactiques plurilingues» aims to promote practice and research about foreign language teaching and learning from a triple bond between subjects, objects and contexts, each with their individual and interacting dynamics. This involves the disciplinary fields involved in the production of practical and theoretical ideas, and of the concrete, educational and professional contexts of teaching and learning , together with school and university language policies which influence the learning of a particular language, the choice of languages and their status. Wor(l)ds of Change: Latin American and Iberian Literature

"This series deals with the relationship between literary creation and the social, political, and historical contexts in which it is produced. The types of volumes may include critical analyses of one or more works by one or several authors; critical editions of important works that may have been out of print for a long time, but which represent a major contribution to literature of the Iberian Peninsula or Latin America, English translations of important works, with critical introduction. Topics for Latin America include: studies of representative works of nineteenth- and twentieth-century thought, poetic portrayals of history, subgenres (fictionalization of the rural and urban social structures); historical novels; literature of exile; re-readings of colonial texts; new approaches to the figure of the Indian and other representatives of transculturation; women writers and other less studied authors. Topics for Spain and Portugal include: writing and nationalism in the Spanish State; bilingualism and the literary texts; censorship and exile; new and renewed genres such as autobiography and testimony; the formation of the avant-garde. Formal studies are expected to bear out the general contextual focus of the series. The use of recent developments in literary criticism is especially appropriate. The series also seeks to contribute to the understanding and accuracy of interpretation of the writing which has combined European elements with indigenous and African ones as well as to the understanding of the dynamics behind such major cultural issues as the formation of literary trends or subgenres, national identities, the effects of postcolonial status on literary imagination, the appearance and experience of women writers, and the relationships between post-modernism and Ibero-American writing. The series title is inclusive of literatures which are geographically, historically, or politically related and whose comparison is relevant to Spanish and Spanish American writing. This series focuses on the life and work of the internationally celebrated German writer Lion Feuchtwanger (1884–1958), whose works have been translated into many languages. Of particular interest are topics such as Feuchtwanger’s role as a critic of Weimar Germany and the rise of Nazism, his years of exile in France (1933–40) and in the United States (1940–58), his achievements as a proponent of the historical novel, and his reception both in Germany and in the wider world. The series presents Feuchtwanger in the context of his times, paying special attention to his years in Southern California and his relationships with other leading cultural figures of the era. With Feuchtwanger at its core, the series explores the multinational literary and intellectual network that resulted from German and Austrian exile under Nationalism Socialism: from Paris to Vienna, Los Angeles to London, Buenos Aires to Tel Aviv, and New York to Moscow. Contributions present cutting-edge research elaborating on the intricate relations of literary locations, emotional spaces and biographies characteristic of these important writers, artists and filmmakers. La collection « Pensée et perspectives africaines » a pour but de révéler, de manière critique, les différents aspects de la pensée africaine. Elle s’efforce, d’une part, de mieux faire comprendre celle-ci et, d’autre part, de dégager les voies à travers lesquelles l’Afrique peut se construire et contribuer à la construction du monde. La collection se préoccupe de stimuler et de faire connaître l’expérience noétique africaine dans ce qu’elle a de spécifique et d’universel. Elle promeut la recherche et la réflexion au sens le plus large. En créant les conditions d’une connaissance à la fois intime et critique des langues, cultures et arts d’Afrique, elle favorise la production d'oeuvres nouvelles. Elle accueille donc toute étude de littérature, anthropologie, histoire, philosophie, art, linguistique, etc., quelle que soit sa provenance, qui contribue à faire connaître la pensée africaine ou d’inspiration africaine. The series «African Thought and Perspectives» aims at a critical analysis of the various aspects of African thought. On the one hand, it focuses on a better understanding of African thought and, on the other, it endeavours to find out ways through which Africa can develop itself while contributing to the development of the world as a whole. The series presents the African intellectual experience in its specificity as well as in its universality. It will also promote research and reflection on African matters in the widest sense. By creating the conditions in which African languages, cultures and arts can be intimately and critically examined, it encourages the production of new works. It, therefore, particularly welcomes studies on literature, anthropology, history, philosophy, art or linguistics that contribute to a better knowledge of African – or African-inspired –thought.

Documents diplomatiques français – Depuis 1954, sous la direction de Maurice Vaïsse

The purpose of the «French Diplomatic Documents» (DDF) is to present year on year the most significant documents relating to French Foreign Policy – preserved by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. A rigorous scientific method is employed for the document selection undertaken by independent groups of scholars and historians under the direction of eminent academics. For this purpose, the groups of scholars are provided complete access to all archives, produced or received by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In order to facilitate reading, the selection of the documents published is annotated using a methodical table, footnotes and an index of names. The DDF series is an indispensable tool for information concerning the history of international relations and French diplomacy during the course of the 20th century. A Critical Introduction to Media and Communication Theory

The study of the media has led scholars to apply a humbling array of theories in their efforts to analyze messages, media systems, audiences and media themselves. One of the strengths of media studies has been its flexibility as it incorporates humanist and social scientific ideas in our work. This series is focused on theories, methods, schools of thought, domains of intellectual struggle, and individual thinkers whose importance to the study of the media can be reconfigured, reinvented, and refocused. Each of the specially commissioned books in the series shares a concern for the heritage of thought in the field of communication. These books provide sophisticated discussions of the relevance of particular theorists or theories, with an emphasis on reinventing communication and media studies, whether by incorporating ideas thought by some to be 'outside' the field, or by providing fresh analyses of ideas that have long been considered central to media studies. Though theoretical in focus, the books are at all times concerned with the applicability of theory to empirical research and experience, and are designed to be accessible, yet critical, for students -undergraduates and postgraduates - and scholars.

Crystallization of human groups in order to constitute a place of citizenship is a complex phenomenon associating elements of identification and distinction: language, geographical origins, social classes, religion, political commitment. Through a multidisciplinary perspective, this collection brings together the works about the common research problem of «civic dynamics», itself concentrated on two main converging aspects: «secularism and religion»; «citizenships and identities». La collection des DDF est un outil indispensable à la connaissance de l’’histoire des relations internationales et de la diplomatie française au cours du XXe siècle. Jahr für Jahr die wichtigsten Dokumente der französischen Außenpolitik zu veröffentlichen, ist das Ziel der «Documents diplomatiques français», die vom französischen Außenministerium aufbewahrt werden. Die Auswahl der veröffentlichten Dokumente wird getroffen von unabhängigen Gelehrten und Historikern unter der Leitung von herausragenden Wissenschaftlern. Mit streng wissenschaftlichen Methoden haben sie Zugang zu sämtlichen Archiven des französischen Außenministeriums. Zur Erleichterung des Leseprozesses werden die veröffentlichten Dokumente begleitet von Kommentaren, Tabellen zur wissenschaftlichen Methode, Fußnoten und Personenverzeichnissen. Die Reihe ist ein unverzichtbares Werkzeug zur Informationen über die Geschichte der internationalen Beziehungen und der französischen Diplomatie im Laufe des 20. Jahrhunderts.
