This book series can be seen as a bridge that brings different worlds and directions of psychology together. The essence of the work proposed in this book series concerns mainly the biopsychological foundations of life in educational and health related fields. The world of the psychology of the Islamic cultural area, for example, is largely unknown for the western readers up to now. Therefore, concepts and research methods from „western" psychology, which are taught and researched around the world, are transferred and applied to questions, to contexts of the Islamic cultural area and to the related Islamic Psychology. Through the contributions in this book series, the content-related concepts, the research approaches and the ways of thinking of the Islamic psychology in educational and health related psychological fields become visible and known for all the western psychologists and researchers. In this way it is possible to create a substantial exchange in which all directions of psychology can contribute to the further development of the discipline of psychology as a whole. This creation of connections is the basic idea of the biocentric approach on which the series is based. This approach promotes and aims to give space to various fundamental orientations in all cultural areas in all directions and allows them to be expressed in order to be described scientifically. The aim of the series Worlds of Islam of the Swiss Asia Society is to publish high-quality, representative work issuing from academic research on all aspects of Islam. It comprises, and receives, studies on present-day and historical Islamic cultures and societies covering the fields of art, literature and thought as well as translations and interpretations of important sources. Furthermore the series intends to present studies that offer expert knowledge on relevant themes and current questions appealing not only to the academic public, but also to an audience generally interested in the Islamic World. One important goal of the series is to establish a forum for academic work in the fields of the humanities and social sciences in Switzerland. However, the series is also committed to the rich variety of studies and writing on the Islamic World in the international research community. The main publication languages for monographs, collections (by individual or several contributors), and surveys are therefore German, French, and English. Life and Letters of Ferdinand von Mueller

Of German origin Ferdinand von Mueller migrated to Australia in 1847. Government Botanist of Victoria for 43 years until his death in 1896, he was Australia's greatest scientist of the 19th century – a major contributor to international science, an intrepid explorer of parts of Australia previously unknown to Europeans, and a dominant figure in the scientific and intellectual life of his adopted country. Throughout his working life, Mueller kept up an enormous correspondence. Large numbers of letters by or to him have been located, scattered throughout the world, and edited for publication. These constitute a major new research tool for both Australian historians and historians of science. They are also of fundamental importance to Australian taxonomic botany, for Mueller introduced vast numbers of Australian plants to western science. "Both at home and abroad religion is recognized as an important factor in many aspects of life-political, cultural, and economic. To assist an informed public debate, this series publishes innovative studies of unquestionably high standards of scholarship an the role of religion and religiously motivated convictions in politics and public life. Preference is given to interdisciplinary and comparative approaches that explore the historical, conceptual, and normative issues that come to bear an the political and public rote of religion, as well as the nature of values and structures of arguments relevant to general policy concerns. Lernweg zum Schia-Islam. Wiener Schia-Islam Vorlesungen

In der theologischen Reihe Lernweg zum Schia-Islam werden die Grundzüge und Überzeugungen des Schia-Islam aus Sicht der imamitischen Weltgemeinschaft dargestellt. Der Lernweg präsentiert eine Grundorientierung über das zeitgenössische Bild des Schia-Islam, unterteilt in drei Kategorien zur Schiitischen Glaubenslehre, Schiitischen Glaubenspraxis und zur Theologie des Lebens. Der Lernweg vermittelt das Basiswissen für islamische Studien in übersichtlicher Form. Jeder Einzelband behandelt einen bestimmten Glaubenspunkt oder eine theologische Fragestellung zu unterschiedlichen Themen. Dadurch entsteht ein übersichtliches Nachschlagewerk zum Schia-Islam. Als eine der ersten konsequent themenorientierten Begegnungen mit dem Schia-Islam schließt der Lernweg eine Lücke im Verlagsprogramm.

Muslime stellen in Deutschland seit der Arbeitsmigration der sechziger Jahre einen nennenswerten Teil der Bevölkerung. Seit den neunziger Jahren stehen die Fragen, welche der Islam im deutschen Recht aufwirft, im Blickpunkt des Interesses. Zunehmend wird deshalb statt von Staatskirchenrecht von Religionsverfassungsrecht oder Religionsrecht gesprochen. Die Bände der Reihe Islam und Recht behandeln neben Themen wie der Zulässigkeit des Kopftuchs im öffentlichen Dienst oder der auf der Grundlage von Koran und Sunna entwickelten Staatstheorie vor allem die unterschiedlichen Aspekte der Institutionalisierung des Islam in Deutschland.

Studies in Life Writing: Biography, Autobiography, Memoir welcomes full-length studies of life writing in all its forms: biography, autobiography, memoir, journals, diaries, blogs, and so forth. Dovetailing nicely with the critical theories of the later twentieth century, life writing questions the divide between fact and fiction, challenges the possibility of presenting a life objectively, and examines how the shaping forces of language and memory prohibits any simple attempts at truth and reference. Provocatively, interest in life writing has increased as both autobiographical and biographical narratives have become a major presence on the Internet, and the growth of literary nonfiction has prompted a resurgence of life narratives and memoirs. The series invites both single-authored book-length studies and multi-authored essay collections on the theory and/or pedagogy of life writing.

Finance, FinTech, and Crowdfunding in Islam

Our second collaboration with the BIT-AMENA (University of California, Berkeley iTechpreneurship in Asia, Middle East, and North Africa) Center for Building Innovation Economies, this series focuses on how a financial system is comprised of different subsystems—such as the banking system, financial markets, capital markets, insurance, and derivatives—which are underpinned by legal and commercial infrastructure. When compared to the conventional system, the Islamic financial system has two distinct features: first, the prohibition of riba (interest), which eliminates the possibility of debt and of leveraging within the financial system, and second, the promotion of risk-sharing, facilitated through modes of transaction designed for investors to share the risks and rewards of investment on a more equitable basis. As such, the Islamic financial system is based on a banking system that operates without a debt economy, and instead promotes the financing of the real economy. Researchers have argued that an active and vibrant market of securitized assets, which has some resemblance to the conventional asset-based debt market, replaces the debt market and behaves and operates differently. We will subsequently examine the vital role that the stock market plays within a risk-sharing economy.

This series is mainly focused on English literature produced in Britain and Europe between the 1750s and the 1830s. It aims to explore the key concepts regarding Romantic texts and aesthetics, such as the relationship between the writer and the natural world; context and history; sensibility and the sublime; gender roles; language and the power of the imagination; studies of genre; slavery and abolition; migration literature, consumer literature; social transformation; critical reception; and transnational relations. The series welcomes studies on major as well as less well-known authors and literary genres, and on historical and cultural contexts of the period. Within this framework, volumes included in this series will not only expand the canon beyond traditional authors and genres, but also provide opportunities for exploring texts and contexts from new perspectives, including those of gender, cultural and translation studies. The series includes monographs, collection of essays, conference proceedings, critical editions and translations, and aims to address an international community. Book proposals for the series are welcome. Those interested in contributing to the series should send a detailed project outline either to the series editors or to the publisher. Die Reihe Klinische Ethik. Biomedizin in Forschung und Praxis befasst sich interdisziplinär mit Studien zur Medizin, Philosophie und Wissenschaftsgeschichte. Im Mittelpunkt der Monographien und Sammelbände der Reihe stehen Fragestellungen zur Ethik der Medizin. Die Beiträge widmen sich dabei sowohl dem Aufzeigen historischer Entwicklungen und der kritischen Hinterfragung von theoretischen Aspekten als auch der empirischen Untersuchung des Themas in Forschungsstudien.
