The series aims to publish innovative research on the written, material and visual cultures and intellectual history of modern Italy, from the 19th century to the present day. It is open to a wide variety of different approaches and methodologies, disciplines and interdisciplinary fields: from literary criticism and comparative literature to archival history, from cultural studies to material culture, from film and media studies to art history. It is especially interested in work which articulates aspects of Italy's particular, and in many respects, peculiar, interactions with notions of modernity and postmodernity, broadly understood. It also aims to encourage critical dialogue between new developments in scholarship in Italy and in the English-speaking world. The Italian Modernities series also includes the Panoramas sub-series. These volumes provide accessible, wide-ranging, research-led accounts of significant new trends, emerging fields of study and new methodologies within work on modern Italian culture, history and related disciplines.

The series, directed by Claudio Gigante and Dirk Vanden Berghe, contains texts and essays on Italian literature of the nineteenth century, understood here in its widest chronological extension, from the first Napoleonic campaign until the end of the first World War; which represents as well the period in which the Risorgimento was fulfilled. The extent of the social and cultural changes that took place in the course of the nineteenth century was such as to influence the whole «Short Century» that would have immediately followed. For this reason, the Italian literary production of such a crucial phase in modern history deserves to be the subject of a specific series of studies, open to different methodological approaches but with a focus on research carried out directly on the texts. Contributions are welcome in Italian and in major European languages. All the volumes in the series «Il secolo lungo» are subject to a double blind peer review. La collana, diretta da Claudio Gigante e Dirk Vanden Berghe, ospita testi e saggi dedicati alla letteratura italiana del secolo XIX, inteso qui nella sua massima estensione cronologica, dalla prima campagna napoleonica alla fine della Grande Guerra: che rappresenta anche il periodo in cui si compì la parabola del Risorgimento. L'entità dei mutamenti sociali e culturali avveratisi nel corso dell'Ottocento fu tale da condizionare l'intero «secolo breve» che gli avrebbe immediatamente fatto seguito. Anche per questo, la produzione letteraria italiana di una fase così cruciale della storia moderna merita di essere l'oggetto di una collana di studi specifica, aperta ad approcci metodologici diversi ma con un'attenzione particolare alle ricerche eseguite direttamente sui testi. Verranno accolti contributi in italiano e nelle principali lingue europee. Ogni volume della collana «Il secolo lungo» è stato sottoposto a una doppia revisione paritaria anonima. La collection, dirigée par Claudio Gigante et Dirk Vanden Berghe, rassemble textes et études consacrés à la littérature italienne du XIXe siècle, période considérée ici dans sa plus ample extension chronologique, de la première campagne napoléonienne en Italie à la fin de la Grande Guerre ; ce qui en réalité coïncide avec l’ère du Risorgimento. Les profonds changements sociaux et culturels qui se sont produits au cours du XIXe siècle ont fortement influencé le « court XXe siècle ». Pour cette raison, la production littéraire italienne d’une période décisive de l’histoire moderne mérite d’être l’objet d’une série spécifique de travaux de recherche, ouverte aux approches méthodologiques différenciées mais axée principalement sur une lecture rapprochée du texte littéraire. La collection accueille des travaux en italien et dans les principales langues européennes. Human Right Studies

The legal and political significance of human rights has increased enormously at the international and European levels. It has become increasingly clear that the respect and promotion of human rights must be at the centre of States and local communities' public policies and that human rights are the basis of civil society initiatives and movements. There is a large mechanism, at all levels of governance, monitoring the way in which States implement the obligations they have assumed towards each person under their sovereignty. The Italian Yearbook of Human Rights Series provides year by year, a dynamic and up-to date overview of the measures Italy has taken to adapt its legislation and policies in line with international human rights law and to comply with the commitments voluntarily assumed by the Italian Government at the international level. The book series thus intends to contribute to the continuous monitoring activity of the human rights situation in Italy undertaken at the local, national and international levels by the relevant intergovernmental and civil society actors. Each volume of this series surveys the activities carried out, during the year of reference, by the relevant national and local Italian actors, including governmental bodies, civil society organisations and universities. It also presents reports and recommendations that have been addressed to Italy by international monitoring bodies within the framework of the United Nations, the Council of Europe and the European Union. Finally, each Yearbook provides a selection of examples from international and national case law that cast light on Italy’s position vis-à-vis internationally recognised human rights. The Yearbook is edited by the Human Rights Centre of the University of Padua, in cooperation with the UNESCO Chair in Human Rights, Democracy and Peace of the same university, and with the support of the Region of Veneto. The Centre, established in 1982, carries out research and education following a global and interdisciplinary approach. It hosts the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on intercultural dialogue, human rights and multi-level governance.

Moving Texts / Testi mobili

Moving Texts/Testi mobili questions Italian memory and identity from the perspective of literary and media studies, providing a forum for discussions on major research topics, including migration and mobility studies, cultural studies, cultural memory studies, film studies, translation studies and studies on linguistic attitudes and sociolinguistic changes. Moving Texts/Testi mobili is open to research conducted within established and emerging fields of investigation. It specifically promotes multi-perspective, multi-disciplinary and inter-medial approaches. The series uses double-blind peer review and is supported by an international advisory board. Proposals in Italian, French or English are welcome both for the main series (monographs and edited volumes), and for Moving Texts/Testi Mobili – Tandem, the sub-series for conjoined essays by two different authors. Potential contributors are invited to submit a book proposal consisting of an outline, a sample chapter and a CV. The scholarly series Studies in Early Modern European Culture aims at publishing scholarly works in the areas of Venetian studies, early modern and modern history, and cultural studies. The publications in the series originate from research work conducted at the CIES (Center for Italian and European Studies), the Boston University research centre located in Padova, Italy. The series includes monographs in English and Italian which reflect the interdisciplinary activities of the CIES. In exceptional cases, the series will accept also works produced by scholars not working at, or affiliated with, CIES. Kontrastive Linguistik / Linguistica contrastiva

Ziel der Reihe ist es, Monographien und Sammelbände zur kontrastiven Sprachwissenschaft unter einem Dach zu vereinen. Im Bereich der Monographien ist dabei sowohl an Überblicksdarstellungen und Detailstudien als auch an Qualifikationsschriften (ab Dissertation bzw. tesi di dottorato) zu denken. Die Themen können aus den Bereichen Lexikologie und Semantik, Lexikographie, Phonologie, Grammatik, Pragmalinguistik, Textlinguistik, Diskursanalyse und Übersetzungswissenschaft stammen. Sie sollen methodisch und theoretisch und/oder empirisch sprachvergleichend ausgerichtet sein. Bei den zu untersuchenden Sprachen muss entweder Deutsch oder Italienisch eine der Vergleichsbasen sein. Arbeiten zu Deutsch und Italienisch sind ebenfalls sehr willkommen. Weitere Vergleichssprachen sind andere romanische Sprachen und das Englische. Die Anzahl der beteiligten Sprachen ist dabei nicht auf zwei begrenzt. La collana ospita pubblicazioni monografiche e miscellanee dedicate alla linguistica contrastiva. Come monografie possono essere pubblicati compendi e manuali di linguistica contrastiva, studi su temi specifici, tesi di dottorato (Dissertation) e di Habilitation. Gli ambiti tematici previsti sono: lessicologia e semantica, lessicografia, fonologia, grammatica, linguistica pragmatica, testuale e conversazionale, traduttologia. Le ricerche devono essere riconducibili a approcci metodologici, teorici ed empirici di stampo contrastivo. Lingue di contrasto potranno essere il tedesco o l’italiano. Altre lingue oggetto di studio su base contrastiva possono essere le lingue romanze e l’inglese. Altrettanto graditi saranno studi su italiano e tedesco e ricerche che tengano conto di più lingue. The series «　Destini incrociati / Criss-crossed fates　» was born out of the encounter of italianist teachers and researchers working in the various francophone universities in Belgium. Multilingual, it offers both studies of a general nature and more specific contributions within the areas of Italian language, culture and literature. With no predetermined methodology, and open to the plurality of voices and skills, the series «　Destini incrociati / Criss-crossed fates　» sets out to combine academic rigour with the pleasure of reading, in publishing alternatively works with multiple authors, monographs, critical and linguistic essays, and academic books. The series has thus been conceived of as a cultural library, an ideal point of convergence for a variety of themes, projects, perspectives and new approaches. All volumes in this series passed a selection process that included double blind peer-review. Nata dallincontro di docenti e ricercatori di italianistica attivi nelle università francofone del Belgio, la collana «　Destini incrociati / Destins croisés　» raccoglie, in più lingue, studi d’insieme e interventi specifici su argomenti che pertengono alla lingua, alla cultura e alla letteratura italiana. Senza preclusioni metodologiche, aperta a voci e competenze diverse, «　Destini incrociati / Destins croisés　» si propone di coniugare rigore scientifico e piacere della lettura, alternando la pubblicazione di volumi miscellanei a monografie, di saggi critici e linguistici a edizioni di testi. La collana si presenta dunque come una biblioteca di cultura, in cui varietà di temi e progetti, novità di prospettive e approcci trovino un punto ideale di convergenza. Ogni volume della collana è stato sottoposto a una doppia revisione paritaria anonima.

"Estudios culturales críticos con perspectiva latinoamericana" es una nueva serie que presenta temas e indagaciones con referencia a teorías culturales críticas situadas. Estas teorías han sido largamente objeto de recepción en América Latina y han dado lugar a reflexión y elaboraciones locales y regionales. Por teorías culturales críticas entendemos – de modo no exhaustivo – la teoría marxiana, la Escuela de Frankfurt, la ‘teoría italiana’ o las corrientes posestructuralistas francesas, así como los enfoques de género, dirigidos hacia problemas relevantes para el contexto latinoamericano (en el campo de las humanidades y las ciencias sociales). Todo ello en confluencia con la tradición ensayística que ha nutrido una genealogía constituida por escritores – entre tantos otros – como Mariátegui, Martí o Martínez Estrada; así como María Moreno, Nelly Richard, Horacio González o Patricio Marchant. Algunos han obtenido reconocimiento global, otros han permanecido como referencias regionales. Los enfoques propuestos ocupan una posición significativa en las escrituras contemporáneas en diversos países americanos, y no siempre se hallan en los departamentos académicos o las editoriales formulados en estos términos, aunque eventualmente se manifiestan bajo otros rótulos. Sin embargo, forman parte de modos de indagación y escritura claramente establecidos y demandados por la perseverancia de los lectores.

Studies in Modern Poetry

This series brings together book-length works on particular modern poets and twentieth-century movements as well as comparative and theoretical studies. Works in the series seek to explore the contributions of twentieth-century poets beyond the well-known major figures of Modernism such as Ezra Pound and T. S. Eliot, in the belief that modern poetry is characterized by its variety, richness and scope. The series focuses on books which compare poetic projects from different national and linguistic traditions or explore the interconnections between poetic expression and the other arts. Authors whose critical approaches utilize contemporary literary theory and/or multicultural perspectives are especially encouraged to consider this series. Languages of the poetry studied include, but are not limited to, English, French, German, Italian and Spanish, though the texts should be written in English and addressed to readers beyond strictly national or disciplinary boundaries.

Victorian and Edwardian Studies

The series focuses primarily on subjects, works and authors of Victorian and Edwardian literature in light of an interpretation of the lines of epistemic continuities/discontinuities involved in the historical notion of “the long nineteenth-century” (1789–1914). While promoting new critical perspectives in the field of Victorian textual production (from literature to visual arts, from scientific works to popular press), the series also aims to publish interdisciplinary works which consider the ideological and sociocultural implications of the radical transformation in Victorian society. The publications in the series originate mainly from research work conducted at the CUSVE (Centre for Victorian and Edwardian Studies – University of Pescara, Italy) but the series is open to contributions originating outside the CUSVE. It publishes monographs, collections of essays, conference proceedings and doctoral dissertations. The language of publications is both English and Italian.

Paratraducción, Interlinguas y Transmedia (ParatradIT)

Desde el cambio de paradigma que supone la noción teórica de paratraducción, creada por el Grupo de investigación Traducción & Paratraducción (T&P) de la Universidade de Vigo (España), la colección Paratraducción, Interlinguas y Transmedia (ParatradIT), dirigida por José Yuste Frías y Óscar Ferreiro Vázquez, invita a reflexionar de manera transdisciplinar sobre la transtextualidad, en general, y la paratextualidad, muy en particular, en los procesos transmediales de la comunicación internacional entre diferentes lenguas (interlinguas) y culturas. Los principales objetos de estudio de ParatradIT son los soportes materiales transmediáticos, los procesos, los modos, las técnicas, las estrategias, las instituciones, las herramientas tecnológicas, las inteligencias artificiales y los seres humanos que hacen posible las transferencias lingüísticas y culturales tanto en pantalla como en papel. ParatradIT acoge publicaciones temáticas centradas no sólo sobre el área de traducción e interpretación, sino también sobre áreas afines como, por ejemplo, la didáctica de lenguas extranjeras y pedagogía de segundas lenguas en la mediación entre culturas. ParatradIT es una colección siempre abierta a los cambios teóricos, didácticos y profesionales que pueden surgir en los diferentes sectores estratégicos de la traducción, como, por poner tan sólo un ejemplo, el sector de la industria del videojuego donde nuevas formas paratextuales ayudan a crear nuevas narrativas transmedia ludográficas en pantalla que suponen nuevos retos de transcreación en la localización de videojuegos. Since the paradigm shift represented by the theoretical notion of paratranslation, created by the Research Group Traducción & Paratraducción (T&P) (T&P), from the University of Vigo (Spain), the series Paratraducción, Interlinguas y Transmedia (ParatradIT), edited by José Yuste Frías and Óscar Ferreiro Vázquez, invites interdisciplinary reflection on intertextuality, in general, and paratextuality, specifically, in transmedia processes for international communication among different languages (interlinguas) and cultures. The main objects of study of ParatradIT are the transmedia materials support, processes, modes, techniques, strategies, institutions, technological tools, artificial intelligences, and humans that enable linguistic and cultural transfers, both on screen and on paper. ParatradIT hosts themed publications not only in the field of translation and interpretation, but also in related fields such as foreign language teaching and second language pedagogy in cross-cultural mediation. The series ParatradIT is always open to theoretical, didactic and professional changes in different strategic sectors of translation, such as the video game industry, where new paratextual forms help create different ludographic transmedia narratives on screen, posing new challenges in the transcreation of video game localization. Raccordi

La collana avvia una riflessione sui rapporti tra letteratura e altri saperi, osservando il modo in cui il testo letterario si arricchisce di temi, lessico, stili, forme, retorica propri di altri ambiti scientifici. Obiettivo della collana è indagare la rete di relazioni che la ricerca letteraria intrattiene con i linguaggi artistici (dal cinema al teatro, alla musica, alle arti figurative, alla serialità televisiva), con le discipline scientifiche (dalla biologia all’ecologia, dalle neuroscienze alla matematica), con la medicina, (dalla medicina narrativa alle Medical Humanities), con le scienze sociali, con il diritto, con l’economia e con le tecnologie. L’originalità della ricerca che si propone consiste nell’ambizione di rispecchiare l’intreccio tra ambiti apparentemente diversi, indagando il modo in cui le conoscenze letterarie influiscono sulle altre e viceversa, nel tentativo di correggere ogni rigida chiusura in specialismi contrapposti e cogliere l’evoluzione storica ed epistemica attraverso forme di dialogo e/o di scontro. La collana ospiterà opere dedicate al tema delle intersezioni tra discipline, mantenendo la letteratura sempre al centro degli equilibri. La prospettiva dovrà essere preferibilmente letteraria, con un’attenzione privilegiata alla letteratura italiana.
