Ralahine Utopian Studies

Ralahine Utopian Studies is the publishing project of the Ralahine Centre for Utopian Studies at the University of Limerick in association with the University of Bologna, the University of Cyprus, the University of Florida and the University of Maine. The series publishes high-quality scholarship that addresses the theory and practice of utopianism (including Anglophone, continental European and indigenous and postcolonial traditions, and contemporary and historical periods). Publications (in English and other European languages) include original monographs and essay collections (including theoretical, textual and ethnographic/institutional research), English-language translations of utopian scholarship in other national languages, reissues of classic scholarly works that are out of print and annotated editions of original utopian literary and other texts (including translations). While the series editors seek work that engages with the current scholarship and debates in the field of utopian studies, they will not privilege any particular critical or theoretical orientation. They welcome submissions by established or emerging scholars working within or outside the academy. Given the multilingual and interdisciplinary remit of the series, the editors especially welcome comparative studies in any disciplinary or transdisciplinary framework.

"From Antiquity to Modernity: Studies on Middle Eastern and Asian Societies is a series focusing on aspects central to Middle Eastern, Central Asian, and South Asian societies in the past and the present. It is designed to contribute toward better understandings of those important regions’ peoples. Original research within the disciplines of anthropology, archeology, art history, cultural studies, economics, history, history of science, international relations, languages, literatures, politics, religions, and sociology will be published. Interdisciplinary, cross-disciplinary, and multidisciplinary studies are welcome as well. So are ones that advance methodologies relating to complexities of the Middle East, Central Asia, and South Asia. Manuscripts can be single- authored or co-authored; edited volumes that form a cohesive body of knowledge will be considered, too. Each book-length manuscript will undergo editorial and peer review prior to acceptance for publication. Individual volumes in From Antiquity to Modernity are of particular value to individuals studying and investigating the Middle East and Asia at universities, think tanks, and governmental and nongovernmental agencies while also being of interest to the general educated reader. New Approaches to Applied Linguistics

This series provides an outlet for academic monographs and edited volumes that offer a contemporary and original contribution to applied linguistics. Applied linguistics is understood in a broad sense, to encompass language pedagogy and second-language learning, discourse analysis, bi- and multilingualism, language policy and planning, language use in the internet age, lexicography, professional and organisational communication, literacies, forensic linguistics, pragmatics, and other fields associated with solving real-life language and communication problems. Interdisciplinary contributions, and research that challenges disciplinary assumptions, are particularly welcomed. The series does not impose limitations in terms of methodology or genre and does not support a particular linguistic school. Whilst the series volumes are of a high scholarly standard, they are intended to be accessible to researchers in other fields and to the interested general reader. Although human beings have been migrating across the globe for millennia, mass migration to North America has occurred only in the last 200 years. Whether they came to farm the land, to practice their crafts, or to find work in newly-emerging industries, over 50 000 000 immigrants crossed the Atlantic Ocean in the last two centuries to begin a new life in the «New World». This series presents examples of the latest scholarship on mass migration from Europe to North America. It welcomes comparative studies of immigrants who went to either Canada or the United States, or both. A Critical Introduction to Media and Communication Theory

The study of the media has led scholars to apply a humbling array of theories in their efforts to analyze messages, media systems, audiences and media themselves. One of the strengths of media studies has been its flexibility as it incorporates humanist and social scientific ideas in our work. This series is focused on theories, methods, schools of thought, domains of intellectual struggle, and individual thinkers whose importance to the study of the media can be reconfigured, reinvented, and refocused. Each of the specially commissioned books in the series shares a concern for the heritage of thought in the field of communication. These books provide sophisticated discussions of the relevance of particular theorists or theories, with an emphasis on reinventing communication and media studies, whether by incorporating ideas thought by some to be 'outside' the field, or by providing fresh analyses of ideas that have long been considered central to media studies. Founded in 1984 by Günter Büschges and Hansjürgen Daheim, the series covers a broad range of topics and research questions. Publications can be in German as well as English. This series has been terminated after vol. 9. ALPH: in Coleridge’s poem Kubla Khan, this is a subterranean river based on the Greek Alphaios, which connects different worlds and thus creates new spaces in secret and surprising ways. The title Alph thus stands for works of fantastic literature/phantasy to which this series devotes new and exciting studies, from all ranges of anglophone writing, but also from other languages. Interdisciplinary and comparative studies are particularly welcome. Band 9 schließt diese Reihe ab. ALPH: In Coleridges Gedicht Kubla Khan ist dies ein unterirdischer Fluss, dem griechischen Alphaios entlehnt, der verschiedene Welten verbindet und dabei auf phantastische Weise neue Räume aufdeckt. Darum geht es in den Büchern dieser Reihe, in der neue Studien zur phantastischen Literatur erscheinen, insbesondere, aber nicht nur, der englischsprachigen Welt. In der Reihe werden Arbeiten zur Literatur-, Kultur- und Sprachwissenschaft, sowie zur Fremdsprachendidaktik und angewandten Linguistik veröffentlicht. Die Schriftenreihe erscheint seit dem Jahr 2013 und präsentiert aktuelle Forschungsergebnisse in diesen Bereichen. Sie umfasst Monographien und Sammelbände über einzelne Autorinnen und Autoren, Gattungen und Themen aus dem Gebiet der deutschsprachigen Literatur- und Kulturgeschichte. As indicated by its name, this series is devoted to the interpretation of ancient Greek and Latin texts. It accommodates not only studies of special subjects and individual authors, but also annotated editions as well as commentaries. In the tradition of critical scholarship the collection is uncompromisingly philological without however excluding new approaches and methods of exegesis. Each of the volumes represents independent and original research which contributes to the understanding of ancient texts whether in the form of critical exposition or the investigation of specific problems. It is in this sense that they genuinely further the discipline of classical philology. At the same time the series welcomes studies of the reception and influence of ancient texts including in particular the history of their transmission as well as the historical development of philology in its various aspects. In order to reach as wide a readership as possible, publication is restricted to works written in those languages most commonly in use in classical scholarship. Special importance is attached to clear presentation and a choice of language that can be readily understood. Authors are moreover encouraged to provide translations wherever they would aid comprehension. Ultimately Sapheneia should not only advance classical studies,but also deepen our understanding of the intellectual tradition of the western world. Accordingly, no less than a sum of interdisciplinary perspectives, from different areas of research into the Humanities and Social Sciences, will supply us with the keys to understand the historical process and current reality of the human being in society. From this diversity, researchers using the prism of identity in any field of the Social Sciences and Humanities are invited to submit their works to the editorial board of the serie Identities. An interdisciplinary approach to the roots of the present. Individuelles ou collectives, assumées ou imposées, acceptées ou combattues, les identités configurent le premier cadre d’’enracinement de l’’être humain en société. La langue, la littérature, la création d’’une mémoire commune déterminée, les formules sociales et toutes les expressions culturelles ont contribué à articuler la vie humaine comme un treillis d’’identités. The series Sources and Studies in Music History from Antiquity to the Present treats a wide range of musicological subjects from antiquity to the present day. There are editions of unknown or forgotten musical sources, biographies of composers, monographs, collections of articles and lectures. Its intention is to promote the dialogue between historical, comparative, and interdisciplinary studies, including recent developments in musicology and musical theory. Die Reihe Quellen und Studien zur Musikgeschichte von der Antike bis in die Gegenwart beschäftigt sich mit einer großen Bandbreite von musikwissenschaftlichen Themen von der Antike bis in die neueste Zeit. Hier erscheinen Quelleneditionen unbekannter oder vergessener Musikwerke, Komponistenbiographien und Monographien sowie Schriften und Vorträge. Die Reihe nimmt aber auch epochenübergreifende und interdisziplinäre Entwicklungen zum Anlass für vergleichende Studien. Ebenso werden aktuelle Entwicklungen der Musikwissenschaft und Musiktheorie als Forschungsfeld aufgegriffen.
