In der neu gegründeten Reihe Sammlung/Collection Variations werden in erster Linie Beiträge zu Kolloquien, Symposien und Studientagen aus dem Bereich der Literaturwissenschaften veröffentlicht, die in Beziehung zur Universität Zürich stehen. Die Sammlung dient dem Ziel, dem interessierten Publikum einen aktuellen Querschnitt aus einer bestimmten Disziplin oder einem Themengebiet zu ermöglichen. Sie ist somit zugleich als Ergänzung und Erweiterung der jeweils einmal jährlich erscheinenden Literaturzeitschrift Variations gedacht.

Studies in Asia-Pacific "Mixed Race"

This series will focus on the construction of ‘mixed race’ or creole identities within the Asia-Pacific region. There has been considerable discussion of ‘mixed race’ within European and American contexts (mestiza, hapa, metis, beur, etc) but comparatively little has been said about the many ‘biracial’ and 'multiracial’ populations within the Asia-Pacific. Economic globalisation demands that people cross national borders with increasing frequency. This means that new ‘mixed race’ identities are a prominent feature of the contemporary world. The series examines this contemporary importance from a variety of disciplinary perspectives as well as considering the ways that ‘mixed race’ categories were in the past constructed out of the colonial encounter. "Interlocutrices privilégiées tant des acteurs sociaux que des autres sciences sociales, les sciences de l'éducation alimentent le questionnement éducatif des sociétés contemporaines. La Collection Exploration entend contribuer à cette réflexion. La pluralité des disciplines et des approches en sciences de l'éducation définit la vocation de la Collection Exploration, celle de carrefour des multiples dimensions de la recherche et de l'action éducative. Sans a priori quant aux méthodes, la Collection publie des travaux empruntant une démarche scientifique, afin de les rendre accessibles aux chercheurs, aux formateurs, enseignants et éducateurs, et plus généralement à toute personne intéressée par l'analyse des phénomènes éducatifs. Comme l'évoque son nom, Exploration privilégie les travaux investissant des terrains nouveaux, abordant des questions vives de la recherche éducationnelle ou développant des méthodologies et des problématiques prometteuses. Exploration comprend trois séries. Recherches en sciences de l’éducation couvre tous les domaines de l’éducation ; Éducation: Histoire et pensée est dédiée aux travaux sociohistoriques et de philosophie ; Vygotskij : œuvres et études se spécialise dans le développement, l’art et les concepts y relatifs en éducation. Placée sous les auspices de la Société suisse pour la recherche en éducation, Exploration a été fondée en 1977; elle a depuis lors publié une centaine d'ouvrages. Modern Poetry

The Modern Poetry series brings together scholarly work on modern and contemporary poetry. As well as examining the sometimes neglected art of recent poetry, this series also sets modern poetry in the context of poetic history and in the context of other literary and artistic disciplines. Poetry has traditionally been considered the highest of the arts, but in our own time the scholarly tendency to treat literature as discourse or document sometimes threatens to obscure its specific vitalities. The Modern Poetry series aims to provide a platform for the full range of scholarly work on modern poetry, including work with an intercultural or interdisciplinary methodology. We invite submissions on all aspects of modern and contemporary poetry in English, and will also consider work on poetry in other language traditions. The series is non-dogmatic in its approach, and includes both mainstream and marginal topics. We are especially interested in work which brings new intellectual impetus to recognised areas (such as feminist poetry and linguistically innovative poetry) and also in work that makes a stimulating case for areas which are neglected.

The purpose of this collection is to promote the work carried out by the Normandy Chair for Peace, which investigates the rights of future generations and Peace with the Earth. Resolutely open to the international scene and committed to multidisciplinarity, the Normandy Chair for Peace will publish here the proceedings and scholarship it has coordinated in fields as varied as: the legal protection of the planet, the rights of indigenous peoples, the rights of nature, animals, success stories, and environmental peace-building. This collection strives for coherence among the various transformations currently under way in international, regional and national legal systems with a view toward establishing sustainable protection of the environment, environmental rights and the future. The collection also explores protection of the future human condition along with bioethical issues that are constantly renewing the legitimate fields of law. Drawing on the immemorial wisdom of Humankind, this collection intends to promote all types of work illustrating the imperative of civilization according to which: "We shall have peace on Earth when we live in Peace with the Earth". Cette collection a pour objet de promouvoir les travaux menés par la Chaire Normandie pour la Paix qui œuvre pour le droit des générations futures et la Paix avec la Terre. Elle présente les travaux conduits dans le cadre de l'IAHA dans le domaine de l'histoire ancienne, de l'épigraphie et de la numismatique grecques et romaines, de l'archéologie, de la littérature, philologie et philosophie antiques. Des actes de colloques, des cycles de conférences, des thèses de doctorat, des travaux de jeunes chercheurs ou d'enseignants universitaires y prennent place, soulignant ainsi le caractère dynamique, multidisciplinaire et international des recherches menées à l'IAHA. Le volume 14 conclut la collection.

Modern American Literature

The books in the Modern American Literature: New Approaches series deal with many of the major writers known as American realists, modernists, and post-modernists from 1880 to the present. This category of writers will also include less known ethnic and minority writers, a majority of whom are African American, some are Native American, Mexican American, Japanese American, Chinese American, and others. The series might also include studies on well-known contemporary writers, such as James Dickey, Allen Ginsberg, Gary Snyder, John Barth, John Updike, and Joyce Carol Oates. In general, the series will reflect new critical approaches such as deconstructionism, new historicism, psychoanalytical criticism, gender criticism/feminism, and cultural criticism.

Studies in Modern Poetry

This series brings together book-length works on particular modern poets and twentieth-century movements as well as comparative and theoretical studies. Works in the series seek to explore the contributions of twentieth-century poets beyond the well-known major figures of Modernism such as Ezra Pound and T. S. Eliot, in the belief that modern poetry is characterized by its variety, richness and scope. The series focuses on books which compare poetic projects from different national and linguistic traditions or explore the interconnections between poetic expression and the other arts. Authors whose critical approaches utilize contemporary literary theory and/or multicultural perspectives are especially encouraged to consider this series. Languages of the poetry studied include, but are not limited to, English, French, German, Italian and Spanish, though the texts should be written in English and addressed to readers beyond strictly national or disciplinary boundaries.

Modern French Identities

This series aims to publish monographs, editions or collections of papers based on recent research into modern French literature. It welcomes contributions from academics, researchers and writers worldwide and in British and Irish universities in particular. Modern French Identities focuses on the French and Francophone writing of the twentieth and twenty-first centuries, whose formal experiments and revisions of genre have combined to create an entirely new set of literary forms, from the thematic autobiographies of Michel Leiris and Bernard Noël to the magic realism of French Caribbean writers. The idea that identities are constructed rather than found, and that the self is an area to explore rather than a given pretext, runs through much of modern French literature, from Proust, Gide, Apollinaire and Césaire to Barthes, Duras, Kristeva, Glissant, Germain and Roubaud. This series explores the turmoil in ideas and values expressed in the works of theorists like Lacan, Irigaray, Foucault, Fanon, Deleuze and Bourdieu and traces the impact of current theoretical approaches – such as gender and sexuality studies, de/coloniality, intersectionality, and ecocriticism – on the literary and cultural interpretation of the self. The series publishes studies of individual authors and artists, comparative studies, and interdisciplinary projects and welcomes research on autobiography, cinema, fiction, poetry and performance art and/or the intersections between them. Studies in Modern German and Austrian Literature is a broadly conceived series that aims to publish significant research and scholarship devoted to German and Austrian literature of all forms and genres from the eighteenth century to the present day. The series promotes the analysis of intersections of literature with thought, society and other art forms, such as film, theatre, autobiography, music, painting, sculpture and performance art. It includes monographs on single authors or works, focused historical periods, and studies of experimentation with form and genre. Wider ranging explorations of literary, cultural or socio-political phenomena in the German-speaking lands or among writers in exile and analyses of national, ethnic and cultural identities in literature are also welcome topics. Proposals are invited for monographs, high-quality doctoral dissertations revised for book publication, focused collections of essays (including selectively edited conference proceedings), annotated editions and bibliographies. Senior figures in the academic profession as well as early career or independent scholars are encouraged to submit proposals. All proposals and manuscripts will be peer reviewed. We publish in both German and English. This series is a successor to Studies in Modern German Literature, edited by Peter D.G. Brown.

Middle and Early Modern English Texts

This series is conceived to facilitate the edition of unpublished scientific treatises written in Late Middle English (late 13th century to the very early 16th century) as well as the publication of monographs dealing with their transmission, palaeographical and dialectal features, and/or their lexical, syntactic and pragmatic characteristics. The second aspect of the series seeks to favour studies specializing in linguistic variation or any of the multi-faceted aspects of the Middle English language even from a diachronic perspective. The Late Middle English Texts series is directed towards a wide scholarly readership that includes Textual Edition, Textual Criticism and Transmission – especially on electronic and digital formats both as standalone and online –, Ecdotics, History of Science, History of the English Language and Linguistics, Late Medieval Studies, History of Cultural Artifacts and Librarianship. The chronological scope we contemplate will range approximately from the mid 1200's to the early 1500's, and will include both manuscripts, incunabula and early prints that have come down to us in English, with the occasional excursion into analogues in other languages. Editions will include codicological and language studies that will enhance the relevance of the text within the cultural transmission European framework. The series includes both scholarly and academic editions and monograph studies with a specialised and comprehensive focus. Thematic and teaching textual anthologies will also be considered for the series. We do not aim primarily at publishing collected papers from conferences, symposia, meetings and other scholarly reunions, unless the occasion had a very relevant topic and was strongly coherent and specialised in its discussions. Each publication is subject to a rigorous blind double peer-review system that involves at least five readers from five different institutions (Universities or Research Institutes).

Moving Texts/Testi mobili questions Italian memory and identity from the perspective of literary and media studies, providing a forum for discussions on major research topics, including migration and mobility studies, cultural studies, cultural memory studies, film studies, translation studies and studies on linguistic attitudes and sociolinguistic changes. Moving Texts/Testi mobili is open to research conducted within established and emerging fields of investigation. It specifically promotes multi-perspective, multi-disciplinary and inter-medial approaches. The series uses double-blind peer review and is supported by an international advisory board. Proposals in Italian, French or English are welcome both for the main series (monographs and edited volumes), and for Moving Texts/Testi Mobili – Tandem, the sub-series for conjoined essays by two different authors. Potential contributors are invited to submit a book proposal consisting of an outline, a sample chapter and a CV. Moving Texts/Testi mobili promuove approcci multiprospettici, multidisciplinari e intermediali provenienti da aree disciplinari e metodologiche di consolidata tradizione così come di recente affermazione. La serie sottopone le pubblicazioni a procedure di peer review e si avvale di un comitato di redazione internazionale. Possono essere inoltrate proposte per la serie madre, che accoglie monografie e opere collettanee, o per la serie Moving Texts/Testi Mobili – Tandem, ciascun volume della quale ospita una coppia di saggi congiunti ma di due autori diversi. Proposte in italiano, francese o inglese possono essere inviate al comitato di direzione dagli autori o curatori interessati. Ogni proposta deve includere una sintesi del volume, un capitolo di esempio e il CV dell’autore o del curatore. Solo testi completi e adattati alle norme redazionali della collana verranno sottoposti a revisione. *** Moving Texts/Testi mobili interroge la mémoire et l’identité italiennes sous la perspective de la littérature et de l’étude des médias. La collection offre un espace de discussion sur les principaux sujets de recherche, proposant des études sur les migrations et la mobilité, la culture, la mémoire culturelle, les films, les traductions ainsi que les attitudes linguistiques et les changements sociolinguistiques. Moving Texts/Testi mobili accueille des travaux consacrés aussi bien à des champs traditionnels qu'émergents. Elle soutient particulièrement les perspectives multiples, la pluridisciplinarité et les approches croisées entre différents médias. La collection pratique un peer-review en double aveugle et est soutenue par un conseil scientifique international. Les propositions en italien, français et anglais sont les bienvenues aussi bien pour la collection principale (monographies et volumes collectifs) que pour Moving Texts/Testi Mobili – Tandem, la nouvelle sous-collection accueillant des essais conjoints de deux auteurs. Nous invitons les auteurs potentiels à soumettre leur proposition en envoyant une synthèse, un chapitre d’exemple ainsi qu’un CV aux directeurs de collection. Kulturelle Identitäten. Studien zur Entwicklung der europäischen Kulturen der Neuzeit / Cultural Identities. Studies in Early Modern and Modern European Cultures

Die Geschichte der europäischen Neuzeit wird geprägt von der Herausbildung von Nationalstaaten, die kontinuierlich unter Bildung jeweils wechselnder Allianzen in militärische, konfessionelle, kulturelle und wirtschaftliche Konkurrenz um die Vorherrschaft in Europa und außerhalb dessen in Konkurrenz treten. Diese Buchreihe bietet ein Forum für Studien, die kulturelle Ausdrucksformen und Institutionen von Nationalstaaten einerseits kontrastiv untersuchen, um diese aus ihren historischen und gesellschaftlichen Bedingungen besser verstehen zu können. Ziel der Reihe ist es, durch Sammelbände und Monographien Beträge zu einer schärfer profilierten neuzeitlichen Kulturgeschichte zu versammeln und dadurch zum einen den nationalkulturellen Entwicklungen gerecht zu werden und zum anderen den europäischen Dialog zwischen den Nationalkulturen darzustellen, der die Vielfalt und Dynamik der neuzeitlichen europäischen Kultur herausgebracht hat. Studies in Philosophy, History of Ideas and Modern Societies

Until the publication of volume 21 the title of the series was "Polish Contemporary Philosophy and Philosophical Humanities". The series aspires to present a wide and relevant overview of best Polish works in philosophy and philosophical parts of the major fields of the humanities: political and social sciences, history, religious studies or what is named in Poland "the history of ideas". The subsequent editions of books within this series are either re-editions of the works previously published in non-Polish versions, or new translations from Polish. Some books contain extended works, other ones provide collections of smaller papers. Some of the authors presented in the series are widely acknowledged and regarded to be the "classics" of Polish intellectual life in the second half of the 20th Century, others are recognized as outstanding professors today. The quality and fame of the works and authors presented in the series are the only criteria for inclusion. The series is open to all streams of Polish philosophy: from analytical philosophy, through phenomenology and hermeneutics, to existential or religious philosophies. Also the word "philosophy" should be understood very widely in this case.
