Studies in Modern European History

The volumes in the Studies in Modern European History series focus upon aspects of the political, social, economic, cultural, and religious history of Europe from the Renaissance to the present, including the political and economic integration of the continent and the resurgence of Europe following the Cold War. Emphasis is placed not only on the states of Western Europe, especially Great Britain, France, Italy, and Germany but also the states of Eastern Europe, following the collapse of Communism. While some of the volumes treat internal developments, others deal with ideological movements such as liberalism, socialism, and communism while still others explore economic and diplomatic activities which transcend the particular countries of the continent. The Studies in Modern Chinese History series publishes works of innovative scholarship concerning Chinese history of various different subjects from late sixteenth century to the present time. These books will include a wide range of viewpoints reflecting awareness of political, economic, and socio-cultural factors in the transformation of modern China from universal empire to republic.

Until the publication of volume 21 the title of the series was "Polish Contemporary Philosophy and Philosophical Humanities". The series aspires to present a wide and relevant overview of best Polish works in philosophy and philosophical parts of the major fields of the humanities: political and social sciences, history, religious studies or what is named in Poland "the history of ideas". The subsequent editions of books within this series are either re-editions of the works previously published in non-Polish versions, or new translations from Polish. Some books contain extended works, other ones provide collections of smaller papers. Some of the authors presented in the series are widely acknowledged and regarded to be the "classics" of Polish intellectual life in the second half of the 20th Century, others are recognized as outstanding professors today. The quality and fame of the works and authors presented in the series are the only criteria for inclusion. The series is open to all streams of Polish philosophy: from analytical philosophy, through phenomenology and hermeneutics, to existential or religious philosophies. Also the word "philosophy" should be understood very widely in this case.

Die 1980 als Heidelberger Orientalische Studien von Anton Schall begründete und von Michael Ursinus, Raoul Motika und Christoph Herzog unter dem Titel Geschichte und Kultur des modernen Vorderen Orients (Heidelberger Studien) fortgeführte Reihe veröffentlicht monographische Studien und Sammelbände zu Fragen der Sozial-, Wirtschafts-, Geistes- und Regionalgeschichte des Vorderen Orients und Irans ab dem 15. Jahrhundert bis in die Gegenwart. Sie legt dabei ihren Schwerpunkt insbesondere auf Arbeiten, die die Erschließung und Auswertung bisher unbeachteten oder unerschlossenen Quellenmaterials in ihren Mittelpunkt stellen und konzentriert sich in geographischer Hinsicht auf die Gebiete des Osmanischen Reiches und seiner Nachfolgestaaten, veröffentlicht aber auch Arbeiten zu benachbarten Regionen. Die Bände 1 - 36 sind in der Reihe Heidelberger Studien zur Geschichte und Kultur des modernen Vorderen Orients erschienen.

Britannia

Die Reihe Britannia veröffentlicht grundlegende Studien aus der Anglistik. Sie umfasst Monographien, Sammelbände bzw. Text- und Quellensammlungen sowohl in deutscher als auch in englischer Sprache, die sich mit verschiedenen literatur- und kulturgeschichtlichen Epochen und Themen vom Mittelalter bis zur Gegenwart befassen. Auch Hilfsmittel wie ein literaturwissenschaftliches Wörterbuch gehören in das Programm der Reihe. Herausgegeben wird sie von den Literaturwissenschaftlern Jürgen Klein und Christoph Houswitschka.

Modernity in Question

The main idea behind this interdisciplinary series is to publish works of philosophers on topics related to contemporary debates on modernity and post-modernity. In philosophy as well as in human sciences, the concept of modernity has been widely discussed for decades, particularly after the collapse of communism. That crisis has been commonly described as the end, if not of modernity as such, at least of some modernity. Different terms like post-modernity or reflexive modernity indicate not only transformations in social, economic and political structures, but also in manners of thinking, of conceptualising reality. The series is open to collaborative works between East- and West-European scholars. Authors are welcome to submit manuscripts for monographs, anthologies and post-conference volumes.
