This series will focus on the construction of ‘mixed race’ or creole identities within the Asia-Pacific region. There has been considerable discussion of ‘mixed race’ within European and American contexts (mestiza, hapa, metis, beur, etc) but comparatively little has been said about the many ‘biracial’ and 'multiracial’ populations within the Asia-Pacific. Economic globalisation demands that people cross national borders with increasing frequency. This means that new ‘mixed race’ identities are a prominent feature of the contemporary world. The series examines this contemporary importance from a variety of disciplinary perspectives as well as considering the ways that ‘mixed race’ categories were in the past constructed out of the colonial encounter. Methodology and methods constitute the heart of social sciences and the mark of any academic endeavour. In recent years, the development of participatory methods broadly understood has led to the renewal of our methodological tools and techniques through the introduction into the research design of the citizens, the experts, the decision makers both private and public. These new methods deserve to be studied not only from an epistemological and a methodological perspective but also in their real-life applications. This series, «Méthodes participatives appliquées/Applied participatory methods», aims at fostering the debates related to the fast-growing development, renewal, and application of the participatory methods. It will be of interest to a wide readership: scholars in human and social sciences, undergraduate and graduate students, private and public decision makers, civil servants, journalists, politicians as well as citizens interested in this applied participatory perspective. This series publishes, in English or in French, both individual and collective works such as monographs (including theses), collections of articles, conference proceedings, textbooks and collections of texts for students and bibliographies. La méthodologie et les méthodes constituent indéniablement le cœur des sciences sociales et la marque de leur scientificité. Depuis plusieurs années, le développement de méthodes participatives entendues au sens large encourage le renouvellement des outils méthodologiques propres aux sciences sociales en intégrant plus directement les citoyens, les « experts » et les décideurs publics ou privés dans le dispositif de recherche. Ces nouvelles méthodes méritent d’être étudiées aussi bien épistémologiquement que méthodologiquement mais également dans leurs applications concrètes. La collection, « Méthodes participatives appliquées/Applied participatory methods », vise ainsi à enrichir les réflexions et les débats qui entourent le développement, le renouvellement et l’application des méthodes participatives. Cette collection intéressera un large public allant des chercheurs en sciences humaines et sociales aux étudiants de tous les cycles en passant par les administrateurs et décideurs privés et publics ainsi que les journalistes, les politiques et les citoyens intéressés par cette perspective participative appliquée. Cette collection publie, en français ou en anglais, des travaux individuels et collectifs, tels que des monographies (tirées ou non de thèses), des recueils d’articles, des actes de colloque, des recueils de textes commentés à destination de l’enseignement ainsi que des bibliographies.

Mythen in Jugendszenen

Das Thema „Jugend“ ist seit Jahrzehnten ein breites Forschungsfeld, dennoch herrschen in diesem Bereich – oft aufgrund unterschiedlicher Ziele, Wünsche und Sichtweisen von Urteilenden und Beurteilten – viele Vorurteile. Gerade im Zusammenhang von politischer Partizipation, Kriminalität und Gewalt wird das Verhalten von Jugendlichen mehrheitlich negativ gewertet. In der Phase der Peer-Group-Sozialisation und der damit einhergehenden eigenen Identitätsfindung bei der Herausbildung und Gestaltung von Jugendszenen, scheinen Mythenbildungen an der Tagesordnung. Welche diese Szene-Mythen sind und inwieweit diese realen Gegebenheiten dieser Jugendszenen entsprechen, soll hier erforscht werden. Die Reihe Mythen in Jugendszenen will daher historische wie gegenwartsbezogene Studien aus allen Disziplinen, die sich mit der Beschreibung, Analyse und Gestaltung von in Jugendszenen entstandenen und bestehenden Mythen befassen, mit einbeziehen. In dieser Reihe ist kein weiterer Band erschienen.

In der theologischen Reihe Lernweg zum Schia-Islam werden die Grundzüge und Überzeugungen des Schia-Islam aus Sicht der imamitischen Weltgemeinschaft dargestellt. Der Lernweg präsentiert eine Grundorientierung über das zeitgenössische Bild des Schia-Islam, unterteilt in drei Kategorien zur Schiitischen Glaubenslehre, Schiitischen Glaubenspraxis und zur Theologie des Lebens. Der Lernweg vermittelt das Basiswissen für islamische Studien in übersichtlicher Form. This series in church history offers a place for diverse scholarship that is sometimes too particularly calibrated for any other publishing category. Rather, the richness of the Church History series is in its scope, which variously mixes historical theology and historical hermeneutics, doctrine and practices of piety, religious or spiritual movements, and institutional configurations. Western Europe and the United States continue to provide grounds for exploration and discourse, but this series will also publish books on Christianity in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Traditional periodization (Early Christian, Medieval, Reformation and Modern eras) grants maximum representation. The particular focus of the series is the treatment of religious thought as being vital to the historical context and outcome of Christian experience. The literature of the Americas has a variety of cultural elements present under the general term "American." The canonical English mainstream of North America and the corresponding Spanish/Portuguese mainstream of South America have nevertheless reflected the arrival, assimilation, and marginality of numerous groups. Their experiences are both unique and representative of universal conditions of cultural contact and conflict. In both the United States and Canada, there are works which represent diverse aspects of the Black, Irish, Italian, Hispanic or Latino, Franco, German, Jewish, Portuguese, Greek, Slavic, and Asian communities, among others, as writers give both creative and testimonial form to the realities, both past and present of groups arriving subsequent to the original colonial period. In Latin America, some of these same groups are represented in the fiction written in Spanish and Portuguese. While this series focuses on specific ethnic groups and/or individual representatives, the fictional and poetic texts therein may address a range of issues, among them race relations, language and bilingualism, nationalism, colonialism, gender, class, cultural conflict, identity and maintenance, the context of multiculturalism. Critical approaches may include ethnocriticism, historical analyses, others, as well as structural critiques of these sorts of texts which by the very nature of their multiple focus become the aesthetic model for their content: a sort of border, mixed-blood, metis linguistic mode that in turn requires a double vision of its readers and critics. Language, Migration and Identity

This series fills a hitherto neglected but now growing area in the treatment of migration: the role of language and identity. This topic is central in a globalized world where the definition of community is constantly challenged by the increased mobility of individuals. Linked to this mobility is the issue of identity construction, in which language plays a key role. Language practices are indicators of the socialization process in bilingual and multilingual settings, and part of the strategies by which speakers assert membership within social groups. Migrant speakers are constantly engaged in identity construction in varying settings. Language, Migration and Identity invites proposals for revised dissertations, monographs and edited volumes on language practices and language use by migrant speakers. A wide range of themes is envisaged, within the area of migration, but from a broadly linguistic perspective. The series welcomes studies of migrant communities and their language practices, studies of language practices in multilingual educational settings, and case studies of identity building among migrants through language use. Proposals might focus on topics such as second language acquisition in social contexts, variation in L2 speech, multilingualism, acquisition of sociolinguistic competence, hybridity and ‘crossing’ in relation to identity. A multiplicity of approaches in the treatment of this interdisciplinary area will be welcome, from quantitative to ethnographic to mixed methods. The series welcomes established scholars as well as early career academics and recent PhD research.

New Disciplinary Perspectives on Education

Educational theory has always been framed within a wider context including philosophy, psychology, sociology and history. In the last ten years, educational discourse has been characterized by the emergence of a more managerialist paradigm and increased emphasis on the delivery of particular educational ‘outcomes’. This has taken place in the context of the huge expansion of tertiary education from the national level, a process in which education has come to be understood as a lucrative global commodity. But alongside these developments, there has also been a resurgence of interest in the educational insights provided by the disciplines of education: for example, renewed emphasis on enquiry-based approaches to learning (Dewey), social constructivist pedagogy (Vygotsky), educational critique (Bourdieu, Freire), new inter-religious pedagogies (Grimmit, Jackson) and fresh perspectives on the ‘spiral’ curriculum (Bruner). Much of this work takes the form of a critique of the instrumentalism of outcome-driven approaches. As the debt-laden student emerges as a political subject, educational discourse has come to represent a particularly contested terrain. The book series New Disciplinary Perspectives on Education seeks to explore how these debates within the resurgence of the disciplines of education relate to wider political and economic conditions, creating new critical understandings and possibilities within educational theory and practice. It welcomes both theoretical and empirical studies, alongside mixed-methods approaches, and publishes disciplinary studies within philosophy, psychology, sociology and history as well as encouraging cross-disciplinary and inter-disciplinary work.

Higher Education and Civic Democratic Engagement

How might we interrogate and reimagine the impact of civic, democratic engagement across higher education? This series invites narratives and new studies that critically and creatively explore the possibilities and limitations of civic, democratic engagement within higher education. The editors seek to gather inclusive, imaginary, transdisciplinary scholarship exploring the impact of next generation civic, democratic engagement from a diverse range of voices. Among others, we hope these voices will include international and indigenous perspectives, members from a diverse array of communities, researchers from across disciplines, teacher-scholars, practitioners and activists, undergraduate and graduate students, politicians, businesses, and different forms of administration. The editors invite proposals that critically examine historical, cultural, and structural dimensions of impact while exploring innovative strategies for disrupting and recreating more inclusive, liberatory, and plural forms of civic democratic engagement. The editors welcome and encourage a wide-range of formats including, but not limited to, narrative studies, ethnographies, mixed method studies, case studies, socio-cultural and/or historical analyses, theoretical treatises from multiple theoretical lens as well as reports and toolkits that support efforts to examine the impact of civic democratic engagement. Global Intersectionality of Education, Sports, Race, and Gender

This series responds to the interesting dialogue and unique social phenomena in the global context produced by the intersections of race, sport, gender, and culture. Global Intersectionality explores these intersections and expands the literature on how each inform our thinking around certain dominant ideologies. This series examines how sporting practices in the U.S. are becoming the global norm in defining what is sport, thus our understanding of race, gender, and culture. The purpose is to inform sport enthusiasts, college students— undergraduate or graduate— educators, researchers, policy makers, and other stakeholders—who are social justice oriented— about the role sport has in contributing to informing cultural ideology, reproducing and reinforcing race and gender ideologies. It also seeks to foster an understanding of how this social phenomenon, that is often situated as merely entertainment or a recreational activity for leisure, has shifted into a cultural practice that can engender global socio-political relations. The topics will include critical moments in sport, as well as broader social movements in sporting context. In addition, this series will dis- cuss topics ranging from youth to professional sporting experiences with attention given to the socialization and educational processes inherent in these experiences as it relates to race, gender, and culture—one title might explore the global sporting practices of Black women, another book topic will examine the sporting practices and the academic and athletic excellence achieved at Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Or, for example, another topic might be examining the athletic migration patterns of African athletes to Europe and the U.S. The uniqueness of the titles in this series is that they will employ a variety of methodologies, including, but not limited to, qualitative, quantitative, mixed methods methodological approaches, non- empirical and socio-historical approaches that incorporate primary and secondary data sources.

Hybris: Literatura y Cultura Latinoamericanas

Since Ancient Greece and the classical era, philosophers, artists and critics have delved into the relationships between literature and other arts. First it was painting and plastic arts –ut pictura poesis, by Simónides de Ceos and Horacio–, later on music, architecture, theatrical representation, sculpture and already, in modern and contemporary times, photography, cinema, television, the mass media. At present this vast and stimulating field of cultural and artistic hybridizations has been completed with new technologies and all "transmedia narratives", generating concepts and transversal actions attached to digital creation and new communicative realities: touch-media, cross-media, intermediality, transmediality, hypertextuality, multimodality, etc. This collection, Hybris: Latin American Literature and Culture, intends, on the one hand, to investigate in the diachronic sense that these relationships have been emerging in the literary and cultural field, understood as aesthetic, practical, leveling and technical borrowing parameters between arts and, therefore the other, is to reflect from a philosophical, social, cultural and theoretical perspective on the possibilities offered by such hybridizations, always within a Latin American context. In classical mythology, Hybris was the goddess of excess, insolence, the absolute absence of moderation, and evoked the need to go beyond limits. This new concept of Hybris intends to insist on the mythological marks of transgression, erasing borders between the arts, shaking the tendency to subdivision and containment and, at the same time, it also demandings identification with the Latin term hybrida, which alludes to the racial or cultural mixing. Hybridization and symbiosis between arts will therefore be the outlines and contexts in which these studies will be invested. Desde la Antigua Grecia y la época clásica, filósofos, artistas y críticos han profundizado en las relaciones entre la literatura y otras artes. Primero fue la pintura y artes plásticas –ut pictura poesis, de Simónides de Ceos y Horacio–, más adelante la música, la arquitectura, la representación teatral, la escultura y ya, en la época moderna y contemporánea, la fotografía, el cine, la televisión, los mass media. En la actualidad este vasto y estimulante campo de hibridaciones culturales y artísticas se ha completado con las nuevas tecnologías y todas las "narrativas transmedia", generando conceptos y actuaciones transversales anejas a la creación digital y a las nuevas realidades comunicativas: touch-media, cross-media, intermedialidad, transmedialidad, hipertextualidad, multimodalidad, etc. Esta colección, Hybris: Literatura y Cultura Latinoamericanas, pretende, por un lado, indagar en el sentido diacrónico que estas relaciones han ido perfilando en el campo literario y cultural entendidos como parámetros estéticos, prácticos, de nivelación y préstamos técnicos entre artes y, por otro, reflexionar desde una perspectiva filosófica, social, cultural y teórica sobre las posibilidades que ofrecen tales hibridaciones, siempre dentro de un contexto latinoamericano. En la mitología clásica, Hybris era la diosa de la desmesura, la insolencia, la ausencia absoluta de moderación, y evocaba la necesidad de traspasar límites. Este nuevo concepto de Hybris pretende insistir en las marcas mitológicas de la transgresión, borrando fronteras entre las artes, sacudiendo la tendencia a la parcelación y a la contención y, a la vez, reclama también la identificación con el término latino hybrida, que alude a la mezcla de sangre. Hibridación y simbiosis entre artes serán, por tanto, los contornos y contextos en los que se imbricarán estos estudios.
