The series “Peregre. Nuova Serie” was founded at the Dipartimento di Letterature moderne e Studi filologico-linguistici at the University of Urbino (Italy) – now part of the Dipartimento di Studi internazionali. Storia, Lingue, Culture in 2009. The series aims at providing a forum for discussions of the department’s interdisciplinary approaches. It presents the research results of theoretical reflections and practical research on (Romance) Languages and Literatures as well as Cultural Studies from medieval to modern times. “Peregre. Nuova Serie” publishes collected volumes and conference proceedings in Italian with abstracts in English and German. "The question of “interpretation” of the text is at the center of this collection of monographs and commentaries on classical literatures. Interpretation starts with the realisation that at the outset, the sense of a text is an hypothesis to be gradually and constantly revised and ascertained. Grammar, syntax, and rhetoric are certainly the necessary part for this critical operation, but they fall short of giving full sense to the signification of the text. A philological commentary establishes the texts as close as possible to the author’s text, and provides the information necessary for modern readers to understand what the text meant to its contemporary users. But besides the impossibility of achieving this task fully, this sort of information does not provide the sense of the text as it opens itself to the questions of its individuality and universality, its historicity and its transhistorical iterability, as it hides the rules and game of its composition, its difference in order to show its identity. These opposite poles are constantly united and create a tension, a continuous oscillation that are the very domaine of the interpretative analysis, and the conditions of the text’s ever emerging sense . The hermeneutic circle, through which the critical hypothesis is constantly revised and made more precise, can be viewed also as a sort of deconstructive operation, a decomposing of the text in order to recompose it around its now discovered rules and games, of which the author is not necessarily always fully aware. Romanticism and after in France / Le Romantisme et après en France

Romanticism and after in France is a series designed to publish research monographs or longer works of high quality whether by established scholars or recent graduates, dealing with French literature in the period from pre-Romanticism to the turn of the twentieth century. Books may be in English or French, and may consist of studies of single authors or of wider topics. All submissions will be assessed by experts before acceptance. Le Romantisme et après en France est une collection dont le but est de publier des monographies ou des ouvrages de plus longue haleine, que ce soit des enseignants chevronnés ou de jeunes chercheurs. Ces livres traiteront de la littérature française depuis la période préromantique jusqu'aux premières années du vingtième siècle, et pourront être en anglais ou en français; ils pourront traiter d'un seul auteur ou d'un sujet plus étendu. Toute proposition sera évaluée par un comité d'experts.

This series aims to promote specialist language studies, both in the fields of linguistic theory and applied linguistics, by publishing volumes that focus on specific aspects of language use in one or several languages and provide valuable insights into language and communication research. A cross-disciplinary approach is favoured and most European languages are accepted.
