The Belt and Road Initiative

The Belt & Road Initiative (BRI) is perhaps the largest global project of both domestic significance and global import proposed by China in the history of its interactions with the world. Since its unveiling in 2013, BRI has not only been embraced by more than 120 countries spanning across all the continents and endorsed by several dozen international NGOs including UN on one hand; it has been drawing an outcry or resistance by some big powers such as the US and India on the other hand. Why is all this occurring? What are the real intentions, real results, real potential and possible risks, and future fate of BRI? Despite the growingly enormous amount of discourse both mediated and nonmediated including thousands of think tank reports about it both in Chinese and other languages such as English, Russian, German, French, Italian, Japanese, Spanish and so on, relatively little scholarship has been produced on BRI so far. However, the BRI studies could be arguably the newest China/Chinese studies and the newest area/regional/global/globalization studies all in one. Therefore, it is the goal of the present book series to advance knowledge about both China and the world from perspectives of various disciplines such as political science and economics, sociology and anthropology, communication, and so on. While proposed volumes from specific disciplines are desirable, proposed volumes on multi-disciplinary, interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary perspectives are especially welcome in the vetting process. This book series aim to produce both monographs and edited volumes from a variety of disciplinary perspectives such as economic science, political science, communication, sociology and anthropology, and so on and interdisciplinary/trans-disciplinary lenses such as area studies, international/intercultural, and global/globalization studies. Polono-Germanica

Schriften der Kommission für die Geschichte der Deutschen in Polen e. V. Deutsche und Polen haben ein höchst wechselvolle gemeinsame Geschichte hinter sich. Von deutscher Seite herrschte lange Zeit ein Gefühl der Überheblichkeit und der Ignoranz gegenüber seinem größten östlichen Nachbarn vor. Dies betraf auch die Wissenschaft. Im neuen Europa von Partnern geht es nun darum, nicht nur mehr Informationen über das deutsch-polnische Verhältnis zur Verfügung zu stellen, sondern Polen auch als gleichberechtigt wahrzunehmen. Dies kann jedoch nicht allein durch nationale Nabelschau gelingen, sondern nur durch ein höheres Maß an allgemeiner Reflexion, die Einbeziehung der Erfahrungen anderer Staaten sowie die Würdigung der spezifischen Rolle der Regionen. Die Reihe Polono-Germanica möchte besonders dazu beitragen, die Geschichte der Deutschen in Polen angemessen zu verstehen und zu würdigen, ohne in Schablonen zu denken.

The Warsaw Studies in English Language and Literature came into being in 2009 as a series published by Warsaw Division of the Lodz Academy of Management. Eight volumes have come out to date. In the area of Linguistics special emphasis will be laid on works on Historical English Linguistics, Congnitive Linguistics, Pragmatics and Text Linguistics as well as translation studies. In the area of literature the series will focus on English medieval literature, medievalism, contemporary English literature, post colonial as well as American Literature. The series is open to scholars from Poland and abroad. "The question of “interpretation” of the text is at the center of this collection of monographs and commentaries on classical literatures. Interpretation starts with the realisation that at the outset, the sense of a text is an hypothesis to be gradually and constantly revised and ascertained. Grammar, syntax, and rhetoric are certainly the necessary part for this critical operation, but they fall short of giving full sense to the signification of the text. A philological commentary establishes the texts as close as possible to the author’s text, and provides the information necessary for modern readers to understand what the text meant to its contemporary users. But besides the impossibility of achieving this task fully, this sort of information does not provide the sense of the text as it opens itself to the questions of its individuality and universality, its historicity and its transhistorical iterability, as it hides the rules and game of its composition, its difference in order to show its identity. These opposite poles are constantly united and create a tension, a continuous oscillation that are the very domaine of the interpretative analysis, and the conditions of the text’s ever emerging sense . The hermeneutic circle, through which the critical hypothesis is constantly revised and made more precise, can be viewed also as a sort of deconstructive operation, a decomposing of the text in order to recompose it around its now discovered rules and games, of which the author is not necessarily always fully aware. The Danziger Beiträge zur Germanistik series includes both anthologies and monographs in the field of German Language and Literature. One area of focus is the link between German and Polish literature, but the series is also dedicated to Germanic philology and history. The editors teach and research German Language and Literature in Poland. Colloquia Baltica

Die Bände der Reihe Colloquia Baltica möchten zur guten Nachbarschaft zwischen Deutschen und den Völkern des Ostseeraumes beitragen. Colloquia Baltica versammelt Arbeiten über die Beziehungen von Deutschland und Polen, Finnland, Litauen, Estland und Lettland, aber auch Russland, der Ukraine, Tschechien und der Slowakei. Die Autoren behandeln in erster Linie Themen aus Geschichte und Literatur, die sich mit Landschaft, Sprache und Architektur zum Gedächtnis in Zeit und Raum verbinden – einem Gedächtnis, das weder Krieg noch Flucht, weder Vertreibung noch Umsiedlung zerstören können. Dabei geht es nicht um rückwärts gerichtete Erinnerungspolitik aus nationaler Perspektive, sondern um die Vielfalt historischer und gegenwärtiger Beziehungen im östlichen Europa. Erfahrung in Raum und Zeit verhilft zu Selbst-Bewusstsein, zur Einsicht in die eigenen Möglichkeiten, das eigene Vermögen, die Welt zu gestalten. Institutionelle und Sozial-Ökonomie / Institutional and Socio-Economics

"In the "Institutional and Socio-Economics" book series, the economy is studied as a genuinely social system of heterogeneous agents in an institutional context. The series includes a broad range of different methodological approaches, theoretical perspectives and subjects of study. Interdependencies among agents in complex social systems can be studied using evolutionary economic models, as well as institutional economic and simulation studies. Hence, the focus is being laid on approaches that are more explorative than the standard equilibrium analysis; on approaches that allow for complexity; on approaches that consider development, history, institutions, and values. Thus, we may conclude that institutions are more than just devices for the reduction of transaction costs. From an institutionalist perspective, institutions are the common and collective solutions to social decision problems, particularly social dilemma problems, coordination problems, and collective-good problems. Such solutions require ‘recognized interdependence’ and learned coordination and cooperation, thus a learned culture of a long-run perspective – emerging as the result of a process of interactions. Institutions often are transitory only, part of the ongoing dynamics, adequately modeled possibly as an evolutionary process. Also, they may be instrumental solutions to a social decision problem at first and may degenerate into ceremonial power-and-status-based phenomena later, thus limiting the possibility of further innovation and development. In a genealogy of economics, the thematic and methodological spectrum of this book series would embrace the history of thought beginning with the classics including great names such as Adam Smith and Karl Marx but also the late classics who already have struggled with issues like complexity, process, historical time, and evolution. In newer times, the spectrum continues with Veblenian, Keynesian, and Post-Keynesian thinking; it would also include works in the traditions of original institutionalist economics, ecological economics, Neo-Schumpeterian thinking, evolutionary economics, and game theory. Social economics and social policy analysis, behavioral economics, complex modeling, system dynamics, and agent-based computational economics would be embraced as well. Such lists, however, can never be exhaustive. Last not least, institutional and socio-economics deals with the epistemology and substance of values, norms and ethics, value warrants of economic behavior as well as the normative foundations of economics. This series, thus, stands in the best traditions of plural economic research areas and pluralistic theoretical perspectives.
