The «International Triffin Foundation», hosted by the Institute for European Studies at the Université catholique de Louvain (Belgium), has the objective of establishing a centre dedicated to the continuation of the scientific work and the intellectual legacy of Robert Triffin (1911–1993) in the field of the international monetary system, and more generally in the areas of economics, finance and the social sciences. Regular publications in the series «International Financial Relations» will ensure promotion of individual or collective works whose main themes are the ones with which Robert Triffin was particularly associated (the European Payments Union, the creation of Special Drawing Rights, the European Monetary System), as well as addressing the new problems which the international monetary system will be confronting at the dawn of the 21st century (external effects of the European Economic and Monetary Union, new tasks for the International Monetary Fund, prevention of financial crises, etc.). La « Fondation internationale Triffin », établie près l’Institut d’études européennes de l’Université catholique de Louvain (Belgique), s’est fixé pour objectif de constituer un centre dédié à la poursuite du travail scientifique et à la valorisation de l’héritage intellectuel de Robert Triffin (1911-1993) sur le système monétaire international, et plus généralement dans les domaines de l’économie, de la finance et des sciences sociales. Les publications de la collection « Relations financières internationales » assurent la promotion de travaux individuels et collectifs dont les thèmes centraux sont ceux auxquels Robert Triffin était particulièrement attaché – l’Union européenne des paiements, la création de Droits de Tirage Spéciaux, le Système monétaire européen. New Literacies and Digital Epistemologies

New literacies emerge and evolve apace as people from all walks of life engage with new technologies, shifting values and institutional change, and increasingly assume 'postmodern' orientations toward their everyday worlds. Despite many efforts to take account of such changes, educational institutions largely remain out of touch with the range of new ways of making and sharing meanings that increasingly mediate and shape the lives of the young people they teach and the futures they face. This series aims to explore some key dimensions of the changes occurring within social practices of literacy and the educational challenges they present, with a view to informing educational practice in helpful ways. It asks what are new literacies,how do they impact on life in schools, homes, communities, workplaces, sites of leisure, and other key settings of human cultural engagement, and what significance do new literacies have for how people learn and how they understand and construct knowledge? It aims to challenge established and 'official' ways of framing literacy, and to ask what it means for literacies to be powerful, effective, and enabling under current and foreseeable conditions. Collectively, the works in this series will help to reorient literacy debates and literacy education agendas.

Studies in Franco-Irish Relations

The aim of this series is to foreground areas of interdisciplinary and multidisciplinary connection between France and Ireland, as well as stressing the European dimension of the Franco-Irish nexus. The series also provides a forum for French-language scholarship within the field of Irish studies. We welcome proposals from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds, including historical, cultural, literary, sociological, political and linguistic perspectives. The series publishes books in both English and French and all submissions will be peer-reviewed. L’objectif de cette collection est de valoriser les recherches multi-disciplinaires ou inter-disciplinaires relatives à la France et à l’Irlande, et de souligner la dimension européenne des relations franco-irlandaises. La collection offre également un espace d’échanges pour la recherche francophone en études irlandaises. Nous accueillons des projets de publication relevant de différents champs disciplinaires et s’inscrivant dans une perspective historique, culturelle, littéraire, sociologique, politique ou linguistique. Both theoretically driven and empirical research based publications are welcomed. Monographs and essay collections on the Asia-Pacific, African and American issues are invited, focusing especially on newest developments in those regions. Publications proposals are reviewed by series editors and after initial acceptance blind review procedure is initiated. Based on the results of this blind review process, given titles are published. C’est pourquoi cette collection entend rassembler des études portant sur la ou les Allemagnes dans ses rapports aux Autres du début du XXe siècle à aujourd’hui. Collection d’histoire et de relations internationales ouvertes aux disciplines proches à démarche historique, elle rassemble des ouvrages analysant les évolutions inter- et transnationales entre les États et les sociétés. Elle est ouverte aux approches comparées, croisées, connectées et aux processus d’échanges dans les champs politique, culturel, économique, scientifique, sociétal ou mémoriel. La collection s’articule principalement autour de monographies et d’ouvrages collectifs, éventuellement de l’édition scientifique de documents. Une attention spéciale sera accordée aux travaux des jeunes chercheurs et aux projets menés dans le cadre de coopérations franco-allemandes ou multilatérales. Les ouvrages s’adressent aux enseignants, chercheurs et étudiants, mais aussi à toutes celles et ceux qui s’intéressent à l’Allemagne contemporaine. Im Herzen Europas nimmt Deutschland eine Schlüsselstellung auf der internationalen Bühne ein und stellt zugleich eine Herausforderung für seine Nachbarn dar. Critical Intercultural Communication Studies

Within Communication, culture is broadly understood as a meaning-making process that evidences itself within discourse, mediated forms, and interactional instances to constitute group autonomy. Within that meaning-making process, intercultural communication considers relationships between institutions and their societies, media and their audiences, and peoples and their communities. The formalized study of intercultural communication has always been problematic; like most disciplines and subdisciplines, its usefulness and limitations emerge from the historical context in which it is studied. Developed after World War II, intercultural communication initially served as an applied area of study to train U.S. governmental and business entities for relationships beyond U.S. borders. Then, out of the struggles of the U.S. Civil Rights era, intercultural communication expanded to concern itself with relationships between differing racial and ethnic groups. By the turn of the twentieth century, some intercultural communication scholars had fully embraced studying the differential power relations between nations, communities, and individuals thus catalyzing a body of research known as critical intercultural communication. Now, heading into the middle of the twenty-first century, critical intercultural communication has come into focus as an area of study that emphasizes, explains, and seeks to resolve power relations within specific contexts, applying theories and modes of inquiry suited to contemporary issues understood within their ongoing historical dynamics. As our institutions and their societies, mediated forms and their corresponding audiences, and communities and their members continue to alter and morph, critical intercultural communication adapts to interpret and envision progressive, socially just ways forward. This series, therefore, invites scholarship that challenges status quo cultural constitutions by recognizing and problematizing hegemonic modes of belonging and being. Spanning a range of contexts, critical intercultural communication considers symbolic and performative orders across local, national, hemispheric and transnational circuits. Moreover, this series fosters interdisciplinary conversations that innovate ontological and epistemological forms, advancing a range of systematic intellectual approaches to cultural transformation and validation. The series is particularly interested in works grounded in BIPOC, decolonial, feminist, queer, crip, and/or kink perspectives that construct claims, knowledges, and theories capable of guiding society toward new social justice knowings.

Paedagogica

Paedagogica publishes original monographs, translations and collections reflecting the thought and practice long known, for example, as le pédagogie in French, pedagogía in Spanish, and Pädagogik in German. Pedagogy in this sense starts with the influence of one person or group on another—often an older generation on a younger. Pedagogy is not just about school or college, but interpenetrates many spheres of human activity, forming a domain of practice and study in its own right—one that is ethical in its implications and relational in its substance. This pedagogical tradition has been developed over hundreds of years, for example, by John Amos Comenius (Komenský), Jean-Jacques Rousseau, Johann Friedrich Herbart, Maria Montessori and Janusz Korczak. The Asian American Studies series will continue to contribute to an understanding of the long neglected history, rich cultural heritage, and present position of Asian Americans in society. The series encompasses studies on all aspects of the Asian American experience, and we are committed to expanding the traditions of knowledge within the field to address vast Asian American epistemologies, communities, activities, and practices. We are looking for work which explores various facets of a transnational perspective including for example: diaspora, displacement and migratory identities, cultural hybridity, transculturation, comparative race studies, contemporary community issues, immigration politics, nationalisms, and representation. While seeking the highest standards of scholarship, the Asian American Studies series is thus a broad forum for research on diverse and complex Asian American issues. The Asian American Studies series is committed to interdisciplinary and cross cultural scholarship. The series scope is primarily in the Humanities and Social Sciences. For example, topics in history, literature, culture, philosophy, religion, visual arts, performing arts, sociology, language & linguistics, gender studies, global studies, ethnic studies, etc. would be suitable. Methodology and methods constitute the heart of social sciences and the mark of any academic endeavour. In recent years, the development of participatory methods broadly understood has led to the renewal of our methodological tools and techniques through the introduction into the research design of the citizens, the experts, the decision makers both private and public. These new methods deserve to be studied not only from an epistemological and a methodological perspective but also in their real-life applications. This series, «Méthodes participatives appliquées/Applied participatory methods», aims at fostering the debates related to the fast-growing development, renewal, and application of the participatory methods. It will be of interest to a wide readership: scholars in human and social sciences, undergraduate and graduate students, private and public decision makers, civil servants, journalists, politicians as well as citizens interested in this applied participatory perspective. This series publishes, in English or in French, both individual and collective works such as monographs (including theses), collections of articles, conference proceedings, textbooks and collections of texts for students and bibliographies. La méthodologie et les méthodes constituent indéniablement le cœur des sciences sociales et la marque de leur scientificité. Depuis plusieurs années, le développement de méthodes participatives entendues au sens large encourage le renouvellement des outils méthodologiques propres aux sciences sociales en intégrant plus directement les citoyens, les « experts » et les décideurs publics ou privés dans le dispositif de recherche. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Studies in Religion, Culture, and Social Development

This series is named for Martin Luther King, Jr. because of his superb scholarship and eminence in religion and society, and is designed to promote excellence in scholarly research and writing in areas that reflect the interrelatedness of religion and social/cultural/political development both in the American society and in the world. Examination of and elaboration on religion and socio-cultural components such as race relations, economic developments, marital and sexual relations, inter-ethnic cooperation, contemporary political problems, women, Black American, Native America, and Third World issues, and the like are welcomed. This book series can be seen as a bridge that brings different worlds and directions of psychology together. The essence of the work proposed in this book series concerns mainly the biopsychological foundations of life in educational and health related fields. The world of the psychology of the Islamic cultural area, for example, is largely unknown for the western readers up to now. Therefore, concepts and research methods from „western" psychology, which are taught and researched around the world, are transferred and applied to questions, to contexts of the Islamic cultural area and to the related Islamic Psychology. Through the contributions in this book series, the content-related concepts, the research approaches and the ways of thinking of the Islamic psychology in educational and health related psychological fields become visible and known for all the western psychologists and researchers. In this way it is possible to create a substantial exchange in which all directions of psychology can contribute to the further development of the discipline of psychology as a whole. This creation of connections is the basic idea of the biocentric approach on which the series is based. This approach promotes and aims to give space to various fundamental orientations in all cultural areas in all directions and allows them to be expressed in order to be described scientifically.
