Die Reihe "Mahler-Studien. Schriftenreihe der Gustav Mahler Vereinigung Hamburg" präsentiert musikwissenschaftliche Forschungsergebnisse zu Gustav Mahler. Sie beleuchtet Aspekte seiner Biographie, seiner geistigen Welt und seines Schaffens ebenso wie die Beziehungen zu Zeitgenossen, die Rezeption seines Werkes durch spätere Komponisten und sein Wirken als Opern- und Konzertdirigent. Die Reihe publiziert Sammel- und Tagungsbände, steht jedoch auch geeigneten Habilitationsschriften, Dissertationen und anderen Monographien offen. Sie wird herausgegeben von dem Musikwissenschaftler Alexander Odefey.

The series Language and Text Studies publishes works of a broad range of research on aspects of language and text, including English, French, German, Slavonic and Baltic studies. Although its central perspective is linguistic in nature, publications also encompass literary and cultural studies. The series comprises monographs as well as anthologies. The editors Alexander Brock and Katrin Schlund are linguists at the English and Slavonic Departments of Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg. La collection Recherches linguistiques et textuelles publie des travaux relevant de la philologie des langues modernes (anglais, langues romanes, allemand, langues slaves et baltes) dans une optique linguistique. Elle s'adresse également aux travaux de recherches littéraires et interdisciplinaires portant sur l'analyse textuelle. Elle publie des monographies, mémoires de recherche, recueils thématiques et actes de colloques. Les éditeurs Alexander Brock et Katrin Schlund sont des linguistes spécialisés aux langues anglaise et slaves, travaillants à l'université Martin-Luther de Halle-Wittenberg. Die Ansätze sollen zwei Ansprüchen genügen, der Innovativität und der Anwendbarkeit. Methodische Einschränkungen würden dem Ziel der Reihe widersprechen, die sich auf Beiträge, freut, die auf dieser Plattform zur Diskussion gestellt werden wollen.

The Peter Lang series Emerging Markets Studies includes works which address opportunities, problems, and challenges of socio-economic development and reform in so-called emerging markets. These comprise middle-income developing and transition economies which are relevant for the world economy due to a large market potential, a favorable or improving investment climate, or due to the availability of important natural resources. Emerging markets have realized or show the potential to generate sustained socio-economic development and growth processes over time. The volumes in this series seek to address three key questions: What are the determinants of successful socio-economic development, What are appropriate reform strategies to overcome impediments to catching-up processes, and how do politico-institutional factors affect the performance of an emerging economy? The scope of the series is comparative, institutionalist, and international. The overall focus of all titles is to enhance the understanding of socio-economic catching-up processes and their institutional foundations from a political-economy perspective. Due to the complexity of development processes and policy reform, various methodological tools and academic approaches may prove to be appropriate. Hence the series includes contributions from various disciplines such as economics, political science, or sociology.

Relations financières internationales / International Financial Relations

The «International Triffin Foundation», hosted by the Institute for European Studies at the Université catholique de Louvain (Belgium), has the objective of establishing a centre dedicated to the continuation of the scientific work and the intellectual legacy of Robert Triffin (1911–1993) in the field of the international monetary system, and more generally in the areas of economics, finance and the social sciences. Regular publications in the series «International Financial Relations» will ensure promotion of individual or collective works whose main themes are the ones with which Robert Triffin was particularly associated (the European Payments Union, the creation of Special Drawing Rights, the European Monetary System), as well as addressing the new problems which the international monetary system will be confronting at the dawn of the 21st century (external effects of the European Economic and Monetary Union, new tasks for the International Monetary Fund, prevention of financial crises, etc.). La « Fondation internationale Triffin », établie près l’Institut d’études européennes de l’Université catholique de Louvain (Belgique), s’est fixé pour objectif de constituer un centre dédié à la poursuite du travail scientifique et à la valorisation de l’héritage intellectuel de Robert Triffin (1911-1993) sur le système monétaire international, et plus généralement dans les domaines de l’économie, de la finance et des sciences sociales. Les publications de la collection « Relations financières internationales » assurent la promotion de travaux individuels et collectifs dont les thèmes centraux sont ceux auxquels Robert Triffin était particulièrement attaché – l’Union européenne des paiements, la création de Droits de Tirage Spéciaux, le Système monétaire européen. Studies in Modern German and Austrian Literature is a broadly conceived series that aims to publish significant research and scholarship devoted to German and Austrian literature of all forms and genres from the eighteenth century to the present day. The series promotes the analysis of intersections of literature with thought, society and other art forms, such as film, theatre, autobiography, music, painting, sculpture and performance art. It includes monographs on single authors or works, focused historical periods, and studies of experimentation with form and genre. Wider ranging explorations of literary, cultural or socio-political phenomena in the German-speaking lands or among writers in exile and analyses of national, ethnic and cultural identities in literature are also welcome topics. Proposals are invited for monographs, high-quality doctoral dissertations revised for book publication, focused collections of essays (including selectively edited conference proceedings), annotated editions and bibliographies. Senior figures in the academic profession as well as early career or independent scholars are encouraged to submit proposals. All proposals and manuscripts will be peer reviewed. We publish in both German and English. This series is a successor to Studies in Modern German Literature, edited by Peter D.G. Brown.

Dabei finden Studien zur Variationslinguistik und Dialektologie ebenso Berücksichtigung wie Arbeiten zum Sprachkontakt, zu Spracheinstellungen und Sprachperzeption, zur Sprachgeschichte und zum Sprachwandel.

Nationalisms across the Globe

Although in the 1980s the widely shared belief was that nationalism had become a spent force, the fragmentation of the studiously non-national Soviet Union, Yugoslavia, and Czechoslovakia in the 1990s into a multitude of successor nation-states reaffirmed its continuing significance. Today all extant polities (with the exception of the Vatican) are construed as nationstates, and hence nationalism is the sole universally accepted criterion of statehood legitimization. Similarly, human groups wishing to be recognized as fully fledged participants in international relations must define themselves as nations. This concept of world politics underscores the need for openended, broad-ranging, novel, and interdisciplinary research into nationalism and ethnicity. It promotes better understanding of the phenomena relating to social, political, and economic life, both past and present. This peer-reviewed series publishes monographs, conference proceedings, and collections of articles. It attracts well-researched, often interdisciplinary, studies which open new approaches to nationalism and ethnicity or focus on interesting case studies. The language of the series is usually English. The series is affiliated with the Institute for Transnational and Spatial History at the University of St Andrews, headed by Bernhard Struck and Tomasz Kamusella. The Institute gathers scholars with a strong interest in the comparative, entangled and transnational history of modern Europe and the globalized world. Maß und Wert

Die Reihe verfolgt das Ziel, die problematische Bindung von Wissenschaft an Ethik mittelbar und unmittelbar anzusprechen. Die Zeitschrift „Maß und Wert“ war in den Jahren 1937 bis 1940 eines der Mittel, mit denen Thomas Mann sich der Verkennung der deutschen Entwicklung entgegenstellte. Inhaltlich sollen die germanistischen Studien ihr Maß aus dem Wert des Menschen gewinnen, sich systematisch im Hinblick auf Alexander Popes Vers „The proper study of mankind is man“ begründen lassen. „Euch ist kein Maß und Ziel gesetzt“ – das sind Worte Mephistos, nachdem Faust den Pakt mit ihm geschlossen hat, zugleich aber Ausdruck der objektiven Gefährdung des neuzeitlichen Forschens. Sie wird im Werk Friedrich Nietzsches mit dem Kollektivsingular „im Menschen ist Geschöpf und Schöpfer vereint“ vielfach variiert ausgeführt. Methodisch ist die Reihe für alle Zugänge offen.

Ecuador - Studien und Editionen

Ecuador ist im Bewusstsein der deutschsprachigen Öffentlichkeit kaum präsent. Das Land wird bis heute fast ausschließlich im Rahmen allgemeiner Problemstellungen südamerikanischer Ökonomie, Politik und Gesellschaft wahrgenommen. Die große Vielfalt Ecuadors ist hierzulande seit Alexander von Humboldts Reiseberichten aus dem beginnenden 18. Jahrhundert zwar bekannt, jedoch einzig auf den Gebieten der Geologie, der Tier- und Pflanzenkunde. Der kulturelle und insbesondere literarische und künstlerische Reichtum des Andenstaates ist selbst Spezialisten lateinamerikanischer Kultur weitgehend unvertraut, mit Ausnahme des Malers Guayasamin und weniger Romane des sozialen Realismus. Vor diesem Hintergrund ist es das Ziel der Buchreihe Ecuador – Studien und Editionen, einen wichtigen Beitrag zur kulturwissenschaftlichen Präsentation Ecuadors in Deutschland zu leisten. Insbesondere soll das Land als Nation einer großen kulturellen Vielfalt gewürdigt und so den Fachkollegen, aber zum Teil auch einem größeren Lesepublikum vorgestellt und als bedeutsames lateinamerikanisches Land ins Bewusstsein gerückt werden. Von hier aus sind eine deutliche Verbesserung der Landeskenntnis in Deutschland, weitere, vernetzte Studien und Editionen im Bereich der Lateinamerikanistik sowie nicht zuletzt auch ein wachsendes öffentliches wie touristisches Interesse denkbar. Die einzelnen Bände der Reihe verschreiben sich dabei zum einen dem Anliegen einer (inter)disziplinär wie methodisch breiten und offenen Darstellung und Vertiefung wichtiger Landesthemen sowie der Präsentation und Erforschung wichtiger Kulturträger/innen. Dazu sollen zum anderen kritische, teilweise zweisprachige Ausgaben und Texteditionen bedeutender ecuadorianischer Autor/inn/en und Künstler/innen erstmals einen besseren Zugang zu den nicht immer leicht zugänglichen Primärwerken ermöglichen.

Humanism, which is characterized by the special status of human beings within the world, i.e. human beings do not differ gradually but categorically from other natural beings, is in a crisis. It gets attacked from various directions. Basically, it is possible to distinguish two main movements which try to transcend Humanism: Trans- and Posthumanism.
