New Literacies and Digital Epistemologies

New literacies emerge and evolve apace as people from all walks of life engage with new technologies, shifting values and institutional change, and increasingly assume 'postmodern' orientations toward their everyday worlds. Despite many efforts to take account of such changes, educational institutions largely remain out of touch with the range of new ways of making and sharing meanings that increasingly mediate and shape the lives of the young people they teach and the futures they face. This series aims to explore some key dimensions of the changes occurring within social practices of literacy and the educational challenges they present, with a view to informing educational practice in helpful ways. It asks what are new literacies,how do they impact on life in schools, homes, communities, workplaces, sites of leisure, and other key settings of human cultural engagement, and what significance do new literacies have for how people learn and how they understand and construct knowledge? It aims to challenge established and 'official' ways of framing literacy, and to ask what it means for literacies to be powerful, effective, and enabling under current and foreseeable conditions. Collectively, the works in this series will help to reorient literacy debates and literacy education agendas.

Die Internationalen Vereinigung für Soziale Sicherheit (IVSS), ist eine 1927 gegründete internationale Organisation. "Theodor Geiger (1891–1952) zählt zu den Klassikern der Soziologie. Ursprünglich aus Deutschland stammend, wo er von 1928 an an der Technischen Hochschule Braunschweig als erster Professor für Soziologie lehrte, floh er nach Dänemark, weil er vom Nazi-Regime im Herbst 1933 wegen «nationaler Unzuverlässigkeit» entlassen wurde. Dort wurde er 1938 zum landesweit ersten Professor für Soziologie an der Universität Aarhus berufen. In Deutschland gilt Geiger als Begründer der Schichtungssoziologie als empirischer Gesellschaftswissenschaft. Institutionelle und Sozial-Ökonomie / Institutional and Socio-Economics

"In the "Institutional and Socio-Economics" book series, the economy is studied as a genuinely social system of heterogeneous agents in an institutional context. The series includes a broad range of different methodological approaches, theoretical perspectives and subjects of study. Interdependencies among agents in complex social systems can be studied using evolutionary economic models, as well as institutional economic and simulation studies. Hence, the focus is being laid on approaches that are more explorative than the standard equilibrium analysis; on approaches that allow for complexity; on approaches that consider development, history, institutions, and values. Thus, we may conclude that institutions are more than just devices for the reduction of transaction costs. From an institutionalist perspective, institutions are the common and collective solutions to social decision problems, particularly social dilemma problems, coordination problems, and collective-good problems. Such solutions require ‘recognized interdependence’ and learned coordination and cooperation, thus a learned culture of a long-run perspective – emerging as the result of a process of interactions. Institutions often are transitory only, part of the ongoing dynamics, adequately modeled possibly as an evolutionary process. Also, they may be instrumental solutions to a social decision problem at first and may degenerate into ceremonial power-and-status-based phenomena later, thus limiting the possibility of further innovation and development. In a genealogy of economics, the thematic and methodological spectrum of this book series would embrace the history of thought beginning with the classics including great names such as Adam Smith and Karl Marx but also the late classics who already have struggled with issues like complexity, process, historical time, and evolution. In newer times, the spectrum continues with Veblenian, Keynesian, and Post-Keynesian thinking; it would also include works in the traditions of original institutionalist economics, ecological economics, Neo-Schumpeterian thinking, evolutionary economics, and game theory. Social economics and social policy analysis, behavioral economics, complex modeling, system dynamics, and agent-based computational economics would be embraced as well. Such lists, however, can never be exhaustive. Last not least, institutional and socio-economics deals with the epistemology and substance of values, norms and ethics, value warrants of economic behavior as well as the normative foundations of economics. This series, thus, stands in the best traditions of plural economic research areas and pluralistic theoretical perspectives. Die Reihe Schriften zum deutschen und europäischen Recht der Arbeit und der Sozialen Sicherheit wird von den Universitätsprofessoren Stefan Greiner, Gregor Thüsing und Raimund Waltermann herausgegeben. Die Schriftenreihe widmet sich Fragestellungen des Individualarbeitsrechts und des kollektiven Arbeitsrechts unter besonderer Berücksichtigung europarechtlicher Implikationen auf das nationale Recht. Vorgenommen werden dabei ebenfalls rechtsvergleichende Studien zu anderen Rechtsordnungen. Entsprechend ihres fortschreitenden Bedeutungszuwachses und im Hinblick auf europarechtliche Vorgaben wird auch die Materie des kirchlichen Arbeitsrechts nicht ausgespart. Sprachliche Konstruktion sozialer Grenzen: Identitäten und Zugehörigkeiten / Linguistic Construction of Social Boundaries: Identities and Belonging

This series focuses on linguistic negotiations of belonging, covering processes of identity construction and group formation (groupness) in social, spatial and temporal terms. At the interface between linguistic, sociological, ethnographic and cultural sciences research, it seeks to depict different communities in their cultural and language practices, which can be implicit in routines of everyday encounters or subject to negotiations and adjustment. Bi- and plurilingual – as well as migratory contexts – are particularly suitable for inquiries regarding belonging. It is often an overt subject of debate within these communities, as the outcome determines the in- or exclusion of members. This series therefore offers a vital and transdisciplinary contribution to recent discussions on belonging. Book proposals are welcome and may be submitted to the editors. All publications will be peer reviewed. Die Reihe thematisiert sprachliche Aushandlungen von Zugehörigkeit in Interaktionen und Prozesse von Identitätskonstruktionen sowie soziale, räumliche und zeitliche Aspekte von Gruppenbildung. Die Bonner Schriftenreihe zum deutschen und europäischen Recht der Arbeit und der Sozialen Sicherheit wird von den Universitätsprofessoren Gregor Thüsing und Raimund Waltermann herausgegeben. Die Schriftenreihe widmet sich Fragestellungen des Individualarbeitsrecht und des kollektiven Arbeitsrechts unter besonderer Berücksichtigung europarechtlicher Implikationen auf das nationale Recht. Vorgenommen werden dabei ebenfalls rechtsvergleichende Studien zu anderen Rechtsordnungen. This «Social Economy & Public Economy» series brings together books and monographs with a common focus: the analysis of the economic activities of formal and informal organisations that aim to serve the «public/general interest» or broad «common welfare» of their societies. Diverse initiatives and a wide variety of organisational forms are concerned: public or private nonprofit organisations and services, social services, public utilities, regulatory rules and actions, public enterprises, local community and regional economic development bodies, cooperatives, mutualist enterprises, etc. The series aims to promote a more scientific, and in-depth international and comparative understanding of this type of research that has been rapidly expanding in recent years. The series will reflect about these developments and through its dissemination, it will also support the increasing inter-disciplinarity and multi-disciplinarity of much of this recent research (e.g. economics, sociology, political science, law, policy evaluation and policy analysis, etc.) Editorial responsibility for the series resides with CIRIEC, an international scientific organisation that promotes, supports and disseminates research on the public economy, the social economy, and cooperatives. One of CIRIEC’s key goals and activities is the promotion, support, and expansion of a large international network of researchers who specialise in these issues. This series will allow the publication of work by members of this network as well as providing an outlet for any related research work by other people outside the existing CIRIEC network. La collection « Économie sociale & Économie publique » rassemble des ouvrages proposant, dans une perspective de comparaison internationale, des analyses des organisations et des activités économiques orientées vers l’intérêt général et l’intérêt collectif : services sociaux, services publics, régulation, entreprises publiques, action économique des entités territoriales (régions, autorités locales), coopératives, mutuelles, associations, ... Dans un contexte de « grande transformation », l’activité scientifique dans ce domaine s’y est fortement développée et la collection se veut un nouveau vecteur de diffusion et de valorisation de cette activité dans une approche pluridisciplinaire (économie, sciences sociales, droit, sciences politiques, ...). La collection est placée sous la responsabilité éditoriale du CIRIEC. Organisation internationale à but scientifique, le CIRIEC a pour objet la réalisation et la diffusion de la recherche sur l’économie publique et l’économie sociale et coopérative. Une de ses principales activités est l’animation d’un vaste réseau international de chercheurs dans ces domaines. La collection permet de publier des ouvrages réalisés par les membres de ce réseau, mais est aussi ouverte à des personnes extérieures à ce réseau.

This series focuses on encounters, conflicts and transformations from the 15th century to the present and beyond. It invites works from various disciplines of the social sciences and humanities that consider the adoption, development, or reconceptualization of basic social and cultural phenomena in the Middle East, as broadly conceived, at any time from the fifteenth century to the present, particularly in consideration of future implications. Cette collection vise à approfondir la réflexion sur les rencontres, les conflits et les transformations qui ont eu lieu au Moyen-Orient à partir du XVème siècle jusqu’au présent et même au-delà. Elle souhaite recevoir des propositions venant des sciences sociales et humaines prenant en consideration l’adoption, le développement ou la réélaboration de phénomènes sociaux et culturels fondamentaux dans l’aire du Moyen-Orient, conçu dans son acception la plus large, à n’importe quel moment de l’histoire entre le XVème siècle et l’âge contemporain avec une attention particulière à leurs futures implications.

Die Zielsetzung der Reihe Social Strategies ist es, Theorie und Praxis in soziologischen und gesellschaftspolitischen Problemstellungen zu verbinden. Dabei interessieren fundierte Analysen sowie konkrete Lösungsansätze und Handlungsvorschläge. Inhaltliche Schwerpunkte bilden die Bereiche soziale Ungleichheit sowie Konflikt und Kooperation im Kontext globaler Prozesse. Eine enge Zusammenarbeit besteht mit der Hochschule für Soziale Arbeit (Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz), dem Basler Institut für Soziologie (Universität Basel) und dem dort angesiedelten Zentrum für Konfliktforschung. Daneben nimmt die Reihe aber auch Manuskripte von anderen Forscherinnen und Forschern auf. Die sozialwissenschaftlich orientierten Arbeiten sollen neben dem wissenschaftlichen auch ein breiteres, an soziologischen und gesellschaftspolitischen Fragen interessiertes Publikum ansprechen. Publiziert werden Kongressberichte, Festschriften, Dissertationen und weitere Arbeiten, die sich interdisziplinär mit sozialen Fragen und Strategien auseinander setzen. Die Publikationssprachen sind deutsch, englisch und französisch.

Anthropologie et philosophie sociale

Cette collection a pour objectif de promouvoir des recherches philosophiques se situant au croisement de l’anthropologie et de la philosophie sociale. L’hypothèse fondamentale est qu’une philosophie sociale soucieuse d’interroger de façon à la fois descriptive et critique les modes contemporains de constitution du lien social ne peut manquer de questionner les présupposés anthropologiques qui sous-tendent son interrogation. Inversement, toute recherche sur les dimensions essentielles de la condition humaine se doit d’interroger la façon dont celles-ci sont chaque fois mises en jeu et recomposées par le contexte social-historique au sein duquel les individus se trouvent. Attentive à la vulnérabilité radicale de la vie individuelle et collective tout autant qu’à sa puissance de création, cette collection vise à faire de l’anthropologie et de la philosophie sociale l’envers et l’endroit d’un même mouvement de recherche portant sur la vie subjective et sa socialité originaire. Dans cette perspective, il s’agit, pour une part, de favoriser la reprise de concepts anthropologiques récents ou provenant de l’épaisseur de l’histoire de façon à les rendre opératoires pour une philosophie sociale questionnant ses propres présupposés anthropologiques. Il s’agit, pour une seconde part, de permettre aux recherches effectuées en anthropologie de questionner leurs présupposés normatifs. Une telle collection désire ainsi ouvrir un espace de réflexion informé par un double mouvement, celui de l’anthropologie vers la philosophie sociale, celui de la philosophie sociale vers l’anthropologie.

Critique sociale et pensée juridique

Marginalisée pendant plusieurs décennies comme une idéologie de combat ou une entreprise fataliste, la critique sociale est revenue en force tant à la faveur des relectures contemporaines du post-structuralisme qu’à travers les perspectives nouvelles ouvertes par les diverses figures du post-marxisme et du néo-pragmatisme. Un point commun de cette «　nouvelle critique sociale » est d’accueillir des recherches provenant de différents champs disciplinaires privilégiant les questions de théorie de l’action et de transformation des formes de participation collective. La présente collection propose de contribuer à ce mouvement en ciblant plus spécifiquement son impact sur la pensée juridique dans ses liens aux changements sociaux et ceci à travers deux séries spécialisées, l’une consacrées aux «　études idéalistes　», l’autre aux « études décoloniales　». De fait, ces deux traditions, l’une historique, l’autre actuelle, se rejoignent dans le projet d’identifier les conditions à remplir pour parvenir, collectivement, à une critique rigoureuse du pouvoir attribué à des systèmes juridiques constamment menacés par la réification de leurs pratiques et dès lors impuissants à accompagner les grands changements de société. La collection s’inscrit dans la tradition de recherche initiée par Jacques Lenoble, André Berten et Marc Maesschalck à l’Université de Louvain en théorie de la norme et en philosophie de l’action.

The series Contributions to Social Research publishes works in sociology and related disciplines, both theoretical works and empirical research. Its focus is on explaining social phenomena and processes by employing assumptions on the micro- as well as the macro-level and the interplay between these levels. Founded in 1984 by Günter Büschges and Hansjürgen Daheim, the series covers a broad range of topics and research questions. Publications can be in German as well as English. Die Reihe Beiträge zur Gesellschaftsforschung umfasst Arbeiten aus der Soziologie und angrenzenden Wissenschaften. Veröffentlicht werden theoretische und empirische Beiträge zur Erklärung sozialer Phänomene und Prozesse, insbesondere solche Beiträge, die bei Erklärungen Annahmen über die Mikro- und Makroebene berücksichtigen und beide Ebenen miteinander verbinden. Die Reihe wurde 1984 durch Günter Büschges und Hansjürgen Daheim begründet und umfasst vielfältige Themen und Forschungsfragen. Die Reihensprache ist Deutsch und Englisch. Band 21 schließt diese Reihe ab.
