Immigration from Europe to North America

Although human beings have been migrating across the globe for millennia, mass migration to North America has occurred only in the last 200 years. Whether they came to farm the land, to practice their crafts, or to find work in newly-emerging industries, over 50 000 000 immigrants crossed the Atlantic Ocean in the last two centuries to begin a new life in the «New World». This series presents examples of the latest scholarship on mass migration from Europe to North America. It welcomes comparative studies of immigrants who went to either Canada or the United States, or both. It also features interdisciplinary studies, biographies, collected essays, and conference papers related to immigration to North America. New Approaches to Applied Linguistics

This series provides an outlet for academic monographs and edited volumes that offer a contemporary and original contribution to applied linguistics. Applied linguistics is understood in a broad sense, to encompass language pedagogy and second-language learning, discourse analysis, bi- and multilingualism, language policy and planning, language use in the internet age, lexicography, professional and organisational communication, literacies, forensic linguistics, pragmatics, and other fields associated with solving real-life language and communication problems. Interdisciplinary contributions, and research that challenges disciplinary assumptions, are particularly welcomed. The series does not impose limitations in terms of methodology or genre and does not support a particular linguistic school. Whilst the series volumes are of a high scholarly standard, they are intended to be accessible to researchers in other fields and to the interested general reader. New Approaches to Applied Linguistics is based at the Centre for Language Assessment Research, University of Roehampton.

It covers both historical readings and contemporary studies. It directs attention toward multi-scalar changes in the global world where local, national and transnational practices are intertwined. The series welcomes innovative theoretical approaches in the field of social and political change as well as applied studies that offer new insight about the mentioned topics. It is open to edited volumes and monographs and welcomes comparative studies and transnational perspectives.

Medienästhetik und Mediennutzung. Media Production and Media Aesthetics

Media production and media aesthetics are corresponding aspects of the discussion surrounding media that form a single unit. The series focuses partly on works about the aesthetic-dialectic analysis of media design. Areas of interest include media technology development and the resulting changes in both media design and what is expected of media. At the same time, digital and online media are influencing usage to a large extent. Authors in this series address these impacts and examine the extent to which changed forms of use are encouraging the development of new technologies and applications. By linking these interacting areas, we want this series to encourage and promote discussion between the disciplines. The volumes 1–4 have been published under "Babelsberger Schriften zu Mediendramaturgie und -Ästhetik". Medienästhetik und Mediennutzung bilden als korrespondierende Aspekte des Diskurses über Medien eine Einheit. Im Fokus der Schriftenreihe stehen zum einen Arbeiten, in denen sich Autor_innen der ästhetisch-dialektischen Analyse der Gestaltung medialer Werke zuwenden. Fokussiert werden die Entwicklungen der Medientechnik und die sich daraus ergebenden Veränderungen in der Gestaltung und in den Erwartungen an Medien. Zum anderen nehmen digitale und Online-Medien einen großen Einfluss auf die Nutzung ein. Autor_innen der Reihe widmen sich diesen Auswirkungen sowie der Untersuchung dessen, inwiefern veränderte Gebrauchsformen die Entwicklung neuer Technologien und Anwendungen anstoßen. Mit der Verbindung dieser interagierenden Bereiche möchten wir in der Reihe einen Diskurs zwischen den Disziplinen anregen und befördern. Studies in East Asian Literatures and Cultures

The series aims to present contemporary research in the fields of Literary and Culture Studies encompassing the Chinese, Korean, Japanese cultural spheres, and the geographic area of Mainland China and Taiwan, Korean Peninsula, and Japan. Topics of interest include classical and contemporary literature, languages and writing systems, research on historical and modern East Asian cultures, as well as cross-cultural and comparative studies of the region. Of special interest are topics transgressing the traditional boundaries of Sinology, Korean, and Japanese Studies, presenting original, interdisciplinary perspectives. The series welcomes monographs and thematic collective volumes by scholars from around the world. The language of the series is English.

Both theoretically driven and empirical research based publications are welcomed. Monographs and essay collections on the Asia-Pacific, African and American issues are invited, focusing especially on newest developments in those regions. Publications proposals are reviewed by series editors and after initial acceptance blind review procedure is initiated. Based on the results of this blind review process, given titles are published. Literary and Cultural Studies, Theory and the (New) Media provides a forum for discussions on a variety of topics in literary, cultural, and media studies. Open to comparatist approaches, the series main venue is in anglophone literature and media, with a special emphasis on narratological, postcolonial, film and media studies. Dedicated to promoting innovative and theoretically informed analyses, the series publishes monographs as well as edited volumes versed in media and literary theory. It also encourages explorations within, as well as dialogues between, narratological, postcolonial, feminist and queer approaches. Other theoretical approaches (stylistics, New Historicism, ecocriticism, etc.) are welcome as are works on literary and cultural theory. All volumes in the series are peer-reviewed. Monographs: Only complete manuscripts are accepted for review. Women, Gender and Sexuality in German Literature and Culture welcomes proposals for monographs and rigorously edited essay collections focusing on the work of women, queer, trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming creators as well as the representation of women, gender and/or sexuality in literature, media and culture. The series contributes to efforts to broaden the German-language canon by publishing pioneering studies of relatively unknown writers, artists and filmmakers and cutting-edge assessments of more established figures. Studies of the history of women, queer, trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming subjects in German-speaking cultures, such as their participation in German, Austrian, Swiss and exile intellectual life and struggle for equal rights, as well as historical considerations of gender and sexuality in German-speaking countries, are also encouraged. Plants and Animals

Plants and Animals: Interdisciplinary Approaches aims to publish scholarly work that addresses common challenges across the fields of plant and animal studies from interdisciplinary perspectives. The series welcomes monographs and edited collections that focus and reflect upon interactions of plants, animals, and humans in innovative ways. At a time of large-scale anthropogenic species extinction, there is a pressing need to promote scholarship that can help us envision more equitable and harmonious forms of coexistence on the planet. The series therefore encourages submissions explicitly geared to build bridges not only between plant and animal studies, but also leading-edge research on other forms of life or ways of being, including fungi, lichens, algae and other microorganisms, as well as scholarship on fantasy creatures, cryptids, semi-living beings, and even non-living forms of existence. The goal is to abolish an artificially compartmentalized view of the world in order to add to the ways of knowing that are beginning to grow through the interconnections between these related fields of study. Grounded in the humanities, Plants and Animals welcomes trans-disciplinary perspectives that engage with scholarship in the social sciences and in the natural sciences.
