  • Europe des cultures / Europe of cultures

    ISSN: 2031-3519

"Europe of Cultures" is a series of studies, monographs, stories, research projects, reports on conferences and debates devoted to the complexities and changing realities in European societies. It bridges the past with the future at the cross road of challenges and opportunities of the transformation of European societies. The management of changes in societies refers to the interconnection of various dimensions and levels of policy-making impacting on economic, social, political, democratic, communication, philosophical, artistic, religious as well as ethical traditions and behaviour. As an editorial project the series is structured along two interconnected and complementary sub-series: i.e. the "(Europe of) Dialogues" series and the "(Europe of) Living Stories". The sub-series "(Europe of) Dialogues" mainly deals with (cultural) diversities, identity and citizenship building in Europe as well as with the relevant multi-level governance and communication structures in the transformation of European societies. Europe is a laboratory for understanding this multi- and intercultural reality. The purpose is to contribute to a better understanding and communication of the changes taking place by looking at the European societies in general, and the specificities of different national, regional and local cultures and communities in a framework of dialogues. The series presents interdisciplinary and critical views of value-driven and policy-oriented reflections. Moreover, it offers new insights into understanding how to manage, value and communicate cultural diversity, identity and citizenship. It also wants to contribute to the development of new ways of "living together", in which cultures and communities are perceived as binding forces in creative society building. The sub-series "(Europe of) Living Stories" (the former "Mémoires de l’Europe en devenir", Director Gabriel Fragnière) is devoted to inspiring narratives for a broad public with a view to contribute to a better understanding, communication and contextualisation of the newly emerging Europe. It mainly focusses on stories, memories and testimonies of persons, events, institutions and issues that have transformed mentalities, fostered European awareness and finally shaped Europe’s future. These stories serve as important references and communication tools for future developments of Europe in the world. This collection wants to be open and diverse, original and dynamic in its content, method and pedagogy faithful to Europe’s role and reference in the globalising world.

  • Italian Modernities

    ISSN: 1662-9108

The series aims to publish innovative research on the written, material and visual cultures and intellectual history of modern Italy, from the 19th century to the present day. It is open to a wide variety of different approaches and methodologies, disciplines and interdisciplinary fields: from literary criticism and comparative literature to archival history, from cultural studies to material culture, from film and media studies to art history. It is especially interested in work which articulates aspects of Italy's particular, and in many respects, peculiar, interactions with notions of modernity and postmodernity, broadly understood. It also aims to encourage critical dialogue between new developments in scholarship in Italy and in the English-speaking world. The Italian Modernities series also includes the Panoramas sub-series. These volumes provide accessible, wide-ranging, research-led accounts of significant new trends, emerging fields of study and new methodologies within work on modern Italian culture, history and related disciplines.

  • Human Right Studies

Subseries: Italian Yearbook of Human Rights

    ISSN: 2294-8848

The legal and political significance of human rights has increased enormously at the international and European levels. It has become increasingly clear that the respect and promotion of human rights must be at the centre of States and local communities' public policies and that human rights are the basis of civil society initiatives and movements. There is a large mechanism, at all levels of governance, monitoring the way in which States implement the obligations they have assumed towards each person under their sovereignty. The Italian Yearbook of Human Rights Series provides year by year, a dynamic and up-to date overview of the measures Italy has taken to adapt its legislation and policies in line with international human rights law and to comply with the commitments voluntarily assumed by the Italian Government at the international level. The book series thus intends to contribute to the continuous monitoring activity of the human rights situation in Italy undertaken at the local, national and international levels by the relevant intergovernmental and civil society actors. Each volume of this series surveys the activities carried out, during the year of reference, by the relevant national and local Italian actors, including governmental bodies, civil society organisations and universities. It also presents reports and recommendations that have been addressed to Italy by international monitoring bodies within the framework of the United Nations, the Council of Europe and the European Union. Finally, each Yearbook provides a selection of examples from international and national case law that cast light on Italy’s position vis-à-vis internationally recognised human rights. The Yearbook is edited by the Human Rights Centre of the University of Padua, in cooperation with the UNESCO Chair in Human Rights, Democracy and Peace of the same university, and with the support of the Region of Veneto. The Centre, established in 1982, carries out research and education following a global and interdisciplinary approach. It hosts the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence on intercultural dialogue, human rights and multi-level governance.

This series, edited by the Department of Language Sciences and Foreign Literatures of the Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore in Milan, intends to publish scholarly reflections on the languages and literatures taught within this Languages and Literatures Faculty. The series is rooted in a tradition of studies which are both philologico-literary and linguistic - a combination of approaches designed to be both rigorous and complemen-tary. The themes of the series will focus on linguistic, stylistic and literary studies re-lated to both European and extra-European cultures. The series will include mostly mo-nographs and doctoral thesis. • Indigenous Cultures of Latin America

    Past and Present

    ISSN: 2689-8217

Indigenous Cultures of Latin America: Past and Present is a new bilingual series that welcomes book proposals, in English or Spanish, focused on the fields of anthropology, archaeology, linguistics, ethnohistory, and art history, among others. We encourage original proposals for projects that use a conjunctive approach to understanding beliefs and lifeways of prehispanic, colonial period, and contemporary indigenous peoples inhabiting Latin America, broadly defined (i.e. extending into parts of the U.S. Southeast and Southwest), relying on a combination of methodologies and data sets to interpret the subject matter. We further encourage projects that utilize decolonizing methodologies and seek to promote research and fieldwork undertaken in collaboration with local indigenous communities and/or indigenous consultants. The series will publish academic monographs, edited collections, and readers. All book proposals and manuscripts will be subject to a rigorous single-blind peer review process, conducted by experts in the respective field(s) of study. Proposals and author/volume editor CVs should be sent to the Series Editor, Dr. Gabrielle Vail, at vailg@email.unc.edu.

  • Il secolo lungo

    Letteratura italiana (1796–1918) / Italian literature (1796–1918) / Littérature italienne (1796–1918)

    ISSN: 2034-564X

The series, directed by Claudio Gigante and Dirk Vanden Berghe, contains texts and essays on Italian literature of the nineteenth century, understood here in its widest chronological extension, from the first Napoleonic campaign until the end of the first World War; which represents as well the period in which the Risorgimento was fulfilled. The extent of the social and cultural changes that took place in the course of the nineteenth century was such as to influence the whole «Short Century» that would have immediately followed. For this reason, the Italian literary production of such a crucial phase in modern history deserves to be the subject of a specific series of studies, open to different methodological approaches but with a focus on research carried out directly on the texts. Contributions are welcome in Italian and in major European languages. All the volumes in the series «Il secolo lungo» are subject to a double blind peer review. • Studies in the History and Culture of Scotland

    ISSN: 1661-6863

This series presents a new reading of Scottish culture, establishing how Scots, and non-Scots, experience this newly devolved nation. Within the context of a rapidly changing United Kingdom and Europe, Scotland is engaged in an ongoing process of self-definition. The series will deal with this process as well as with cultural phenomena, from debates about the relative value of Gaelic-based, Scots and Anglicised culture, to period-specific definitions of Scottish identity. Orally transmitted culture - from traditional narratives to songs, customs, beliefs and material culture - will be a key consideration, along with the reconstruction of historical periods in cultural texts (visual and musical as well as historical). Taken as a whole, the series will go some way towards achieving a new understanding of a country with potential for development into parallel treatments of locally based cultural phenomena. The series welcomes monographs as well as collected papers.
