This series, therefore, opts for a multidisciplinary approach to the problem of risk, which involves the scientific community as much as the political world and civil society. Cette collection a pour principal objectif de traiter les différents aspects de la problématique des risques associés aux activités humaines. Parmi celles-ci, le développement scientifique, technologique et économique s’impose de plus en plus comme un moteur fondamental du changement social. Dans cette perspective, le concept de risque se révèle un outil pertinent d’analyse des processus de transformation sociale. À titre d’exemple, les recherches en génie génétique, de même que l’utilisation civile de technologie militaire, soulèvent inévitablement des questions d’éthique, de santé publique, d’environnement et de gestion des politiques publiques. The series embraces this global vision of the genre but also supports the articulation of each community’s unique approach to the challenges of science, technology and society. The series encourages the use of contemporary theoretical approaches (e.g. postcolonialism, posthumanism, feminisms, ecocriticism) as well as engagement with positionalities understood through critical race and ethnicity studies, gender studies, queer theory, disability studies, class analysis, and beyond. As indicated by its name, this series is devoted to the interpretation of ancient Greek and Latin texts. It accommodates not only studies of special subjects and individual authors, but also annotated editions as well as commentaries. In the tradition of critical scholarship the collection is uncompromisingly philological without however excluding new approaches and methods of exegesis. Each of the volumes represents independent and original research which contributes to the understanding of ancient texts whether in the form of critical exposition or the investigation of specific problems. It is in this sense that they genuinely further the discipline of classical philology. At the same time the series welcomes studies of the reception and influence of ancient texts including in particular the history of their transmission as well as the historical development of philology in its various aspects. In order to reach as wide a readership as possible, publication is restricted to works written in those languages most commonly in use in classical scholarship. Special importance is attached to clear presentation and a choice of language that can be readily understood. Authors are moreover encouraged to provide translations wherever they would aid comprehension. Ultimately Sapheneia should not only advance classical studies,but also deepen our understanding of the intellectual tradition of the western world. "This series welcomes both individually-authored and collaboratively-authored books and monographs as well as edited collections of essays. We are especially interested in books that might be used in either advanced undergraduate or graduate courses in one or more of the following subjects: cultural or multicultural studies and the teaching of writing; feminist perspectives on composition and rhetoric; postmodernism and the theory and practice of composition; “post-process” pedagogies; values, ethics, and ideologies in the teaching of writing; information technology and composition pedagogy; the assessment of writing; authorship and intellectual property issues; and studies of oppositional discourse in the academy, particularly challenges to exclusionary or hegemonic conventions. We also seek proposals in the following areas: the role of autobiography and of identity issues in both writing and writing pedagogy; the influence of social context on composing; the relationship of composition and rhetoric to various disciplines and schools of thought; collaborative learning and peer tutoring; facilitating and responding to student writing; approaches to empowering marginalized learners; the role or status of composition studies within English studies and the academy at large; and the role or status of student writers within the fields of composition and English studies."

La collection « Action publique » étudie le fonctionnement de l’État sous des angles multiples. Elle privilégie l’analyse des politiques publiques (environnement, santé, emploi, culture, etc.) et l’étude institutionnelle et organisationnelle des administrations publiques. Les mutations qui caractérisent aujourd’hui l’action publique (déréglementation, externalisation, contractualisation, action en réseaux ...) sont au cœur de ses préoccupations. Ainsi la collection « Action publique » accorde-t-elle également une place importante aux rapports que l’État entretient avec son environnement, l’appareil politique et la société civile bien sûr, mais aussi avec les évolutions sociétales plus larges (individualisme, globalisation, etc.). La pluridisciplinarité est une caractéristique essentielle des travaux contemporains dans le domaine. C’est pourquoi cette collection encourage les approches économiques, historiques, juridiques, politologiques, sociologiques et philosophiques. The series « Public Action » studies the State and how it works from a variety of perspectives. It focuses on public policy analysis (environment, health, employment culture, etc.) as well as the institutional and organizational study of public administrations. The mutations that characterize nowadays public action (deregulation, externalisation, contractualisation and networking) are at the heart of these preoccupations. Consequently, the series « Public Action » also places further emphasis on the relationship the State maintains with its environment; – not only the political apparatus and, of course, civil society, but also with broader social changes such as individualism and globalization. Multidisciplinary work is an essential characteristic of contemporary research in the field. Given the essential need for such approaches to the topic, this series encourages economic, historical, judicial, politological, sociological and philosophical perspectives.

Language as Social Action

This Series explores new and exciting advances in the ways in which language both reflects and fashions social reality--and thereby constitutes critical means of social action. As well as these being central foci in face-to-face interactions across different cultures, they also assume significance in the ways that language functions in the mass medias, new technologies, organizations, and social institutions. Language As Social Action does not uphold apartheid against any particular methodological and/or ideological position, but, rather, promotes (wherever possible) cross-fertilization of ideas and empirical data across the many, all-too-contrastive, social scientific approaches to language and communication. Contributors to the Series will also accord due attention to the historical, political, and economic forces that contextually bound the ways in which language patterns are analyzed, produced, and received. The „Dresden Papers on Law and Policy of the United Nations“ offer a platform for scientific research regarding the United Nations – including UN specialized agencies and regional organizations. They reflect in a legal and/or political scientific perspective the structure and work of the world organization and aim at examining the opportunities which exist in order to strengthen the UN system as a basis for a “world’s peace law” through governance. By doing so, the Dresden Papers wish to contribute to the field of “UN Studies” in research and teaching. Many Voices

The literature of the Americas has a variety of cultural elements present under the general term "American." The canonical English mainstream of North America and the corresponding Spanish/Portuguese mainstream of South America have nevertheless reflected the arrival, assimilation, and marginality of numerous groups. Their experiences are both unique and representative of universal conditions of cultural contact and conflict. In both the United States and Canada, there are works which represent diverse aspects of the Black, Irish, Italian, Hispanic or Latino, Franco, German, Jewish, Portuguese, Greek, Slavic, and Asian communities, among others, as writers give both creative and testimonial form to the realities, both past and present of groups arriving subsequent to the original colonial period. In Latin America, some of these same groups are represented in the fiction written in Spanish and Portuguese. While this series focuses on specific ethnic groups and/or individual representatives, the fictional and poetic texts therein may address a range of issues, among them race relations, language and bilingualism, nationalism, colonialism, gender, class, cultural conflict, identity and maintenance, the context of multiculturalism. Critical approaches may include ethnocriticism, historical analyses, others, as well as structural critiques of these sorts of texts which by the very nature of their multiple focus become the aesthetic model for their content: a sort of border, mixed-blood, metis linguistic mode that in turn requires a double vision of its readers and critics. Medieval Interventions

Medieval Interventions publishes innovative studies on medieval culture broadly conceived. By «innovative», we envisage works espousing, for example, new research protocols especially those involving digitized resources, revisionist approaches to codicology and paleography, reflections on medieval ideologies, fresh pedagogical practices, digital humanities, advances in gender studies, as well as fresh thinking on animal, environmental, geospatial, and nature studies. In short, the series will seek to set rather than follow agendas in the study of medieval culture. Since medieval intellectual and artistic practices were naturally interdisciplinary, the series welcomes studies from across the humanities and social sciences. Recognizing also the vigor that marks the field worldwide, the series endeavors to publish work in translation from non-Anglophone medievalists.
