Even ostriches don’t really put their heads in the sand

It might feel overwhelming to think about the challenges we face as a species. But closing our eyes and metaphorically putting our heads in the sand won’t help. Although the ostrich story has been around for centuries, it isn’t true that ostriches hide from danger by putting their heads in the sand. Neither should we.

Perhaps you face the same double challenge many others experience when trying to think about the challenges confronting humanity:

1. a belief that global challenges are too complex for ordinary and even extraordinary people to understand. How could one person hope to understand all of the complex dangers facing the world?

2. a sense of powerlessness. Why try to understand something you can’t do anything about anyway?
