Hierapytna in the Hellenistic Period
Pottery evidence presented in the previous chapters provides a means for assessing the site of Hierapytna in different periods of its history. This chapter begins this discussion by examining the city in the Hellenistic period in light of this new data. First, the Hellenistic pottery from the three rescue excavations will be examined in detail. Next, this pottery evidence will be mobilized in an effort to describe the city’s relationship with its chora, other regions of Crete, and the eastern Mediterranean as a whole.
