My Real “Gay Agenda”: Exposing the Holy Homophobia of Catholic Schools
Tonya D. Callaghan
My real “gay (research) agenda” is an overt attempt to expose the “holy homophobia” (Callaghan, 2012) of publicly-funded Canadian Catholic schools, to encourage Catholic education leaders to begin to bring Catholic schools in line with Canadian law vis-à-vis sexual and gender minorities, and to ensure that anti-homophobia education reaches Canadian Catholic schools. The overarching goal of my research agenda is to integrate theory and practice in such a way that educational stakeholders become aware of the contradictions underlying their educational practice, and ideally become motivated to free lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) students and teachers from religiously-inspired heterosexist oppression in school settings.
