Acceptable Use Policies (AUP): AUP is a document with a set of rules developed by schools and school districts to prevent potential legal action, to inform parents of the use of new media and technologies in the school, and to provide guidelines for educators and students.

Assistive technology: Technology tools that enable individuals with a disability to access curriculum or to accomplish daily activities with minimal assistance.

Avatar: An avatar is a representation of a person or character in graphical form in 2 or 3 dimensions. A user may create and use an avatar in his or her likeness while participating in digital spaces, such as online games, virtual worlds, or Internet communities. There are applications that allow users to create customized avatars as characters that can speak using computerized or recorded speech.
