11.  Breaking Down Barriers: Digital Media and Universal Design



Within any classroom, students have various abilities for using the material presented in the classroom to achieve learning outcomes. In those same classrooms are students who come from a variety of cultural backgrounds. Disparities in levels of technical skill can be attributed to differences in primary language and uses of digital media in the home. Differences in primary language and uses of digital media in the home can be attributed to varying technical skills. Principles of universal design implemented in a global classroom invested in rich digital media experiences assist the teacher in meeting the needs of children with diverse needs.
