Maria Boos

Dr. Maria Boos is the E-Portfolio Coordinator at the Center for Teacher Education at the University of Cologne (Germany). Before that she worked as a research assistant in the work group “Theory and Design of Teaching and Learning in the Classroom” at the Ruhr-University Bochum (Germany). She has been teaching courses on media literacy for four years and has written about media education in Germany and the United States. She received her PhD at the University of Paderborn in 2014. In her dissertation she used quantitative and qualitative research methods to examine the media-related participation activities of soap opera fans from 35 different nationalities. Based on theoretical foundations of fandom research and concepts of media literacy and participation, she developed a model of media-related participation activities of soap opera fans on the Internet.
