Produsing the Hidden: Darknet Consummativities
Consummativity is a mode of the labor of consumption. It is both its measure and the system of needs driving consumption itself as constituted through and constituting the subject’s desires (Baudrillard, 1981; Dant, 1999). As a field of distributed subjectivity, consumption is one mode through which we coconstruct ourselves and our relation to things. Darknets are clearly participating in this field of consumption, as is the Internet in which darknets exist. Consummativity is the labor of the desires that coconstitutes the subject of the produser in relation to his or her consumption of the project (Bruns, 2006, 2008a, 2008b). In the case of darknets, that consumption is of time, knowledge, and economic value involved in produsing darknets.
