Meade’s Social Dividend

From Debt to Public Patrimony*

Alfonso IOZZO

The cycle of the industrial revolution is finished and the era of scientific and technological revolution and of a sustainable economy has started. This is a trend that spreads from the center of the world economic system to the areas of more recent industrialization. The Gross Domestic Product (GDP) has been the measure of economic development in the period of industrialization: profit is in fact determined as the difference between earnings and the cost of goods and services used to produce them. The measurement takes into consideration, through amortization, also the use of capital, but it concerns essentially the goods in the possession of the enterprise, and not all the public goods utilized (as the air, for example).
