An Historical Perspective / Une perspective historique

The authors of this volume examine the main reasons – ideological, political, cultural and economic – that have been advanced to encourage citizens to support the European project. The contributors also consider the initiatives proposed by the political and institutional actors involved for promoting this supranational project.
L’analyse de la formation et du développement d’un consensus pour l’intégration européenne représente une piste interprétative intéressante pour étudier l’histoire de la construction de l’Europe unie.
Dans ce volume, les auteurs examinent les principales raisons avancées – idéales, politiques, culturelles, économiques – pour obtenir le soutien des citoyens au projet européen. En outre, ils analysent les initiatives élaborées par les acteurs politiques et institutionnels impliqués dans le processus d’unification dans le but de promouvoir le projet supranational.
Maria Serena ADESSO is PhD in Modern and Contemporary European History at the University of Bari, and her thesis is entitled La sinistra italiana e il Parlamento europeo (1957-1979). She collaborates with the “Associazione per la Storia della Puglia e del Mezzogiorno nell’Integrazione europea” and the Istituto Gramsci Puglia. Her research interests include Italian political parties. Filadelfio BASILE was Full Professor in “Fondamenti di Politica Agraria” and “Politiche di finanziamento delle imprese agroalimentari” at the University of Catania. Andrea BECHERUCCI, Archivist at the Historical Archives of the European Union (European University Institute) in Florence. He is author of a large number of contributions mainly concerning Italian secular parties and movements, the history of “Partito d’Azione”, relations between politics and culture, European federalism and European social policy. He carried out the editing of the Gaetano Salvemini’s correspondence. Olga BOMBARDELLI is Full Professor of Educational Studies at the Facoltà di Lettere e Filosofia, Università degli studi di Trento; holder of a Module J. Monnet “Education for the Future of Europe” (since 2007), Università degli studi di Trento, coordinator of an European Project (ECLIPSE European Citizenship Learning in a Programme for Secondary Education, with 5 European Partners). Her research interests are education for citizenship, teacher training, European dimension and inclusive education. She is the author of various publications on education, citizenship, and teacher training. Oreste CALLIANO is Associate Professor at the University of Turin and Chair Jean Monnet of Private Law of EU. He is Vice-President of the Associazione universitaria di studi europei....
