Challenges of research on the subject of elder abuse
Elder abuse includes various kinds of violent behaviours aimed at elder individuals by their relatives or other people taking care of them and is among today’s most pressing problems encountered by the elderly. It is indicated that elder abuse is the cause of death in approximately 2500 elderly individuals in Europe every year (World Health Organization, 2011) and approximately 200000 elderly individuals in Turkey are victims of violence and abuse today (Tufan, 2011).
