Women’s Council in City Councils in Terms of Participation: The Example of Bursa Nilüfer

The city councils are establishments that are centred around democracy, with the support of citizenship awareness and non-governmental organizations. Thanks to city councils, people can participate in local government acts and can be a part of the decisions that affect the city they live in. For the efficient and effective operation of the city councils, women and youth councils are particularly important.

In this study, the effectiveness of Bursa City Council’s Women’s council regarding democracy and local participation, and its functions were assessed. The emphasis will be on any possible negative aspects of the city councils, which were established to facilitate urban management and based on public participation.
