Sectoral Industrial Specialization in Romania

Abstract: The paper deals with sectoral specialization in the manufacturing industry in Romania compared with the European Union. The research was performed using relevant instruments - indicators of sectoral specialization, Krugman, Grübel-Lloyd - calculated in terms of number of employees, gross value added, export and import, conclusions offering interesting landmarks for decision makers at all institutional and corporate levels – maintaining broadly the model of industrial specialization in traditional sectors characterized by low technological level and value added, poor capitalization of potential competitive advantages that some sectors have, the decisive role of foreign direct investment in significant progress registered by some sectors with medium-high and high technological level, etc.

Keywords: industrial specialization; industrial sector; techological level; gross value added; export; import
