Self-Orientalist Paradigm in Turkish Media and Native Aliens: Types of Representation of Kurds in Media*

Introduction

This study is prepared based on the assumption that the media has a function that legitimises the discourse of political power and “reproduces the relationship between power and knowledge in favour of the political power.” The role and practices of the Turkish media in terms of interior otherisation will be argued on the basis of the representations of Kurds in the media which have been at issue in recent years. A critical reading of media texts within the context of phobic, criminalising and pathetic representations constitutes the methodology of the study.
