The book focuses on European Integration in the Field of Higher Education and Research, as well as the Implementation of the Bologna Process in Slovenia. The common policy of higher education and research belongs to the most important fields in the process of European integration and to the constitutive elements of the European Union. The authors analyse the process constituting the framework of higher education and research policy in Poland and Slovenia. The book analyses the political process of transformation within these two member states of the EU and exemplifies their plurality and specificity which are integrated in the genuine European idea of education, science and the research community.
To the most important fields in the process of European integration and to the constitutive elements of the European Union belongs the common policy of higher education and research. The fact is that in both fields – higher education and research – despite the national differences and various socio-political or historical backgrounds the community on supranational and European level is meanwhile constituted. In the following analyses we characterise the process constituting the framework of higher education and research policy in two member states of the European Union – Poland and Slovenia – as the example of plurality and specificity which are integrated in the genuine European idea of education, science and research community.
In the first part of the book beginning with a more general issues concerning higher education and research policy including approaches and strategies implemented on the global level Tomasz Stępien outlines the major prerogatives constituting the European approach in the policy of research and higher education understood as the integral part of the policy of development and the social cohesion which shall be attained at the European as well as the national levels. In this vein T. Stępień intertwined the supranational and global, then European and national dimensions of the processes designing nowadays the policy of higher education and research.
