Arbeitsmarktentwicklung und -regulierung

Zwischen Fachkräftemangel und Migration

Series:

Edited By Stefan Kolev, Bernhard Seliger, Jüri Sepp and Ralph Michael Wrobel

While it is not a sufficient condition, socio-economic development would not be possible and modern man could not function “normally” without it. However, due to increasing transport flows these positive effects are more and more threatened by negative externalities1 in the form of, among other things, congestion, air pollution, accidents and greenhouse gases contributing to climate change. This article deals with the importance of the functioning of transport systems for the European labor market, in particular the European transport labor market, in a positive as well as negative sense. The main aim is to identify and assess key challenges in the labor market in the European transport sector, and present some disputable issues related to activities aiming at dealing with these challenges. First, the direct and indirect importance of transport for the European labor market is presented. Then, the key challenges in the European labor market are identified and elaborated. Finally, some potential directions of development and their possible impact on employment in the transport sector are discussed.
