Nowadays, an end-to-end industrial transformation called Industry 4.0 sets new goals for manufacturing and impacts on business outcomes. With some of its characteristic elements such as IoT (Internet of Things), digital twin simulation models, advanced robots, big data analytics, and virtual/augmented reality, Industry 4.0 is «de facto» going further. The book aims to provide relevant theoretical frameworks and the latest empirical research findings in the area of Management Information Systems (MIS) with the scope of Industry 4.0. The strategic role of Industry 4.0 in the distributed business environment and the necessity to protect and properly utilize its key elements at different levels of organizations as well as in society are discussed.

Industry 4.0 and Turkey: A Chance or a Thread?
After the first industrial revolution (Industry 1.0), followed by mass production (Industry 2.0), also known as Fordism, and Industry 3.0, which is still retaining its update, finally a new paradigm called “Industry 4.0” has occurred. Robeco company has published a report in 2015 and has pointed out that although there are different concepts such as Internet of Things (IoT), Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), cyber-physical systems (CPS), they all serve the same purpose with Industry 4.0 (Koychev, 2015). To avoid ambiguity and become more explicit, we prefer to use the term Industry 4.0 in our study. The term Industry 4.0 was first coined in 2011 at the Hannover Fair in Germany. Starting with the manufacturing area, the term has expanded in all sectors rapidly under the guidance of some leading companies, such as Intel, Siemens AG and General Electric Company (Industry ARC, 2018, Lydon, 2014).
There is another confliction in the literature if the term “Industry 4.0” is a revolution or is just an evolution. When we call something as developing, it means gradually changing, carrying out a job in a different way or evaluating something with different perspectives; on the other hand, revolution represents a radical change.
