Foreword and Dedication

This book was completed in the last days of 2020, when the Covid-19 virus was spreading throughout the world and killing millions of people. Like elsewhere in the world, people in Turkey had to isolate themselves, live marginal lives by frequently washing, keeping social distance, and wearing masks, and the sick were discriminated by people who were struggling to preserve their existence. This pandemic and the ensuing plight inspired a group of academics to study and analyse works of fiction about the frequently encountered predicaments of marginalization, discrimination, isolation, and the human race’s painstaking efforts for their continued existence. So this body of articles came into being.

In the early days of 2021, hopes are sprouting with news of new vaccines formulated and administered. The editors and authors of this book are grateful to all scientists and health workers in Turkey and worldwide who have risked and given their lives for humanity bravely.
