This volume presents contributions of the 16 th International Scientific Meeting on The Reform of Education and Teacher’s Training to the topic The Quality of Education and Culture – Theoretical and Practical Dimensions. The meeting topic was: Combination of the University and High school education: humanistic/classical tradition and change of perspectives in the field of education and schooling under consideration of new structures of the thinking and management strategies with regard to the challenges of the society of the next decade.

Marija Barkauskait, Irena Zaleskien Values of Teenagers Living in Urban and Rural Areas Abstract: The present article embraces a discussion on the “mode of life” con- ception and term (standard of living, lifestyle, quality of living, etc.) on the basis of literary sources. The authors disclose that, in the opinion of the majority of Lithuanian and foreign researchers, the mode of life and life’s variety depends on a person’s physical, intellectual and material possibilities, his/her life activi- ties and the factors that determine them (motives, interests, hobbies/likings and values), as well as the possibilities to satisfy their social, material and spiritual needs. In the second part of the article, the authors analyse the factors influenc- ing teenager values and stress the role of the environment and the family. The third part contains a presentation of empirical research data disclosing val- ues of teenagers living in urban and rural areas and an analysis of their differ- ences. On the basis of literary source analysis and empirical research, conclu- sions have been drawn that it is not only the social status of the family that in- fluences teenager values, but also the localities they live in (urban and rural ar- eas). The authors underline that teenagers living in rural areas maintain closer relationships with their family members and are more affectionate with them as well as pay more attention to family members’ opinions. Meanwhile, teenagers living in urban areas pay greater attention to totally different aspects, e.g. luxury items or fashionable clothing...
