47 4 The Principles of the TRIFT-Internships (Christian Schottmann, EU-Geschäftsstelle) It has been one of the central aims of the TRIFT-project to check the usability of the TRIFT-matrix through internships on the basis of this Matrix. The partners agreed on the following principles for these internships: • The competence matrix should be the basis for describing and rating the competences, gained through the internship abroad. • The focus of the internship should lie on the competence areas 2 (ensuring the process of purchasing) and 6 (observing and analysing foreign markets and foreign contexts) focussing mainly on the first two development steps. This focus was made in order to grant a certain comparability of the results and to have defined competence areas for the projects. • The interns should work half of their working time in the aforementioned two competence areas (2 and 6). The rest of the time she/he should work according to the needs of the hosting company. Thus, we did not determine the whole content of the internship. • The internships should ideally last 8 weeks (in fact there was a span from 6-8 weeks). With less than 6 weeks of internship the intern could not work according to the assessment methods. • The methods of assessment should be outcome oriented and work based. They should be assessed in a valid way that allows the acknow- ledgement in the home countries of the students.
