Dieser Sammelband besteht zum Teil aus den Referaten der Sprachinselsektion der 1. Internationalen Tagung der IGDD, die im März 2003 in Marburg an der Lahn stattgefunden hat. Die anderen Beiträge wurden von Forschern aus verschiedenen Sprachinselregionen der Welt beigesteuert. Im Zentrum der Aufsätze stehen soziolinguistische, dialektologische und kontaktlinguistische Entwicklungen, die in deutschen Sprachinseln der Welt am Anfang des 21. Jahrhunderts stattfinden.
This collection of papers contains contributions to the language island section of the First International Conference of the International Society for German Dialectology (IGDD), which took place in Marburg an der Lahn, Germany in March 2003. In addition, further contributions are included on research done in language island regions of the world. The focus of the essays is the socio-linguistic, dialectological and contact-linguistic survey of the development of German language islands across the world as registered at the beginning of the 21 st century.

Larissa Moskaljuk (Barnaul, Russland) For the last 200 years the Germans in Russia have lived in spite of continuous efforts to keep their identity in the foreign culture. That is also true for their settlements in the Altai-region. But the dialects of Russian Germans are still the medium of everyday communication as well as the main feature of their national identity. The German speech communities exist in the Altai-region in the relatively stable ethnic- cultural conditions of the secondary colonies. These colonies were founded in the late XIXth – early XXth centuries and their inhabitants still haven not moved out. There are numerous speech communities here, which differ from each other and whose inhabitants speak various High- and Lowgerman dialects. These dialects are different from the German dialects in Ger- many. The island dialects in Russia have changed a lot but they still keep the main character- istics of the native German dialects. Some of them are marvelously alike the old dialects. The others formed new mixed dialects. 1. Allgemeines zur Situation der Deutschen im Altai-Gebiet in der Gegenwart Im Beitrag wird die gegenwärtige sprachliche Situation der Russlanddeutschen im Altai skizziert und einige Fragen des Spracherhalts bzw. des Sprachverlusts bei den Russlanddeutschen anhand soziolinguistischer Aspekte erläutert. An- schließend werden im zweiten Teil Dialektproben der gegenwärtig gesprochener Mundarten vorgestellt. Die empirischen Daten wurden im Rahmen eines größeren Forschungsprojekts der Barnauler Staatlichen Pädagogischen Universität gesammelt.
