Strategien der Lehrerbildung / Strategies for Teacher Training

Zur Steigerung von Lehrkompetenzen und Unterrichtsqualität / Concepts for Improving Skills and Quality of Teaching

Edited By Gerd-Bodo von Carlsburg

If something is taught today to future teachers, it might be outdated already at the time they start teaching. How can this be prevented, or rather, what can be taught to teachers so that they will continue to be of value to their students and what they teach will be of value for a lifetime? Life-long learning seems necessary and inevitable, but can one also still learn for life? Petrus Ramus had the idea that pedagogy/didactics should serve to learn whatever one wants to learn more effectively and more efficiently. One should rather concentrate on learning few things, but understand and remember them for a long time. The idea is to learn the basis, from which one can then quickly develop the details as needs arise. But what is this basis? If one learns only few things, one has to choose wisely. Comenius in his Great Didactics built on Ramus’ idea, but expanded it: everybody should be enabled to learn everything in as short time as possible. Ernst Mach showed that this learning can be applied to learning science (mathematics, natural sciences, “social sciences”) in such a way that everybody understands everything and can in principle apply it to find something new (which might even...
