Internationalen wissenschaftlichen Konferenz Bildungsreform und Lehrerausbildung, die vom Ministerium für Bildung und Wissenschaft der Republik Litauen, der Litauischen Universität für Bildungswissenschaften in Vilnius (LEU) und der Pädagogischen Hochschule Heidelberg – University of Education gemeinsam veranstaltet wurde. Das Hauptthema der Konferenz waren Bildungs- und Qualitätsstandards der Hochschul- und Schulbildung. Vidas Valskys Developing Speciality-Related Language of Pre-service Educators: Experience, Challenges and Future Prospects Abstract When in 2003 the Programme of Language for Specific Purposes and in 2009 the Programme of Language for Specific Purposes in Teacher Training were endorsed, the standards of speci- ality-related language development and teaching changed, and the amount of attention paid to the special linguistic needs significantly increased. The paper focuses on the peculiarities of the development of trainee teachers’ speciality-related language (the programmes and practical work), which are determined by the dual needs of their speciality and pedagogues’ profession, analyzes the issues of teaching and learning the subject, and reviews the future prospects of developing speciality-related language. Keywords: language for specific purposes, teacher training, education. Introduction Linguistic communication is, most probably, among the most significant needs for a contemporary educated person seeking quality professional activities, and its acquisition is among the most necessary goals of every person seeking higher education. The general communicative competence is developed in the module of language for specific purposes taught in most schools of higher education in Lithuania. The questions of teaching and studying the speciality-related language have been researched in several different papers which analyze the general issues of teaching the subject [1, 2], examine the needs and possibilities of specific schools of higher education [4], present the comparative analysis of the study programmes [6], discuss the questions of subject didactics [3] and other important aspects.
