Does God exist? That’s what the faithful and nonbelievers argue about. There is no doubt about the fact that religion exists. However, that which the Rumania native scholar of religious studies, Mircea Eliade, actually characterizes as a feature of the homo sapiens seems to have been forgotten in Europe for quite some time: The fact that humans have a basic potential for faith. In his epochal History of Religious Ideas the scholar of religion concludes: The “experience of the holy” is an “element of the human awareness structure”. In other words: Religion is a general human fact.

1.  Religion is a general human fact

As a matter of fact, faith has been growing into a historical size at the beginning of the 21st century. In the face of enormous shock caused by the events on September 11th, a new basic tone is recognized in the discussion of whether religion is real. This belief appears to be a closed final chapter today: Religion is merely ideology and must necessarily die out. It has nothing to do with the reality of human life and projects human needs to heavenly spheres (Ludwig Feuerbach). Exactly two hundred years after the birth of the German critic of religion, about whom Karl Marx claimed that everyone had to go through this “Fire Creek” (Feuerbach), if they wish to arrive in a modern society, the scenery has changed completely: September 2001 also...
