This article deals with the (re-)establishment of the military chaplaincy in the Austrian Armed Forces after 1955, its rapidly increasing range of duties as well as the problems and challenges the chaplains were confronted with at the beginning. The clerical attendance was affiliated to the soldiers’ desire for spiritual support and education in the field of military ethics.
